Making Friends with the Nylon Tunnel

It was just last week that I wrote of my foster-cat, Parker, discovering the heated cat-beds. Over the weekend, he explored another new element of the household: the nylon tunnel.

The nylon tunnel has been quite a boon to the entertainment of the cats. They will zoom through it for fun; they will chase each other through it; they will lie in it while I play with them from the outside; they will snooze in it. I have found it useful as a toy, a furnishing and an all-round accessory for the beasts. And now, the orange boy has taken an interest in it.

He started by beating it up. He seemed to think this was a great deal of fun. Then he ran through it at speed and kicked it at the far end. He lie in it, perhaps marvelling at the strange colours resulting from the filtered light. He would fight the nylon tunnel, twisting it this way and that. Was he frustrated or fascinated that it kept reverting to its original shape?

Whatever Parker’s emotions, they were positive. He hasn’t played with the nylon tunnel since the weekend but, like the heated bed, he knows that it is there, and it is another part of his foster-world that he has discovered. It was an enjoyable experience for him.

And it was tiring. Afterward, he deserved a rest, which he took on our newest cat-bed.

  1. What great fun Parker was having! The pics certainly indicate that, and I love the second-to-last one best, looking at him through the tunnel. Good shot! I suppose that Nicki and Derry now will want me to drag their tunnel out of the storage ottoman. :-D

  2. those tunnels are fun. we adults don't currently have one though. there is one in the foster room that mom may have to break out soon - we bet the kittens would have a blast now that they are running around more. LOVE the new cat bed - MOL

  3. I loved your story of the Nylon Tunnel and the pictures that went with it. I especially loved the picture of the new cat bed. Leave it to our cats to discover that something can have a multitude of uses.

  5. Haha! Loved that last picture of Parker sleeping! He can sleep about anywhere can't he?
I noticed on your sidebar that Noah is no longer listed. I'm hoping he found his forever home?! If I lived closer, I would have loved to have adopted him. So, I really, really hope he found his home.

    1. It was, in fact, Channing who has been adopted. Noah still needs a permanent home. He has lost his play-pal, and we are waiting on developments to see if another foster-cat can be placed where he currently resides.

  6. Haha Parker this post made us smile. Miss pops spent 6 weeks at a cattery a few years ago and they said she spent every day just lying in a tunnel like that.

  7. I so enjoyed Parker's adventures this morning. Parker will learn that our tunnels are teleportation devices. We use them to visit our furriends anywhere in the world. Our Pawrents can't squeeze in--- just we can, and we use them frequently between naps to visit our besties. The pictures of him inside were great!

  9. There is always a cat at the end of the tunnel. I love the photo of Parker looking down the long tunnel. He is so sweet. Holly loves exploring the garbage - always some new piece of plastic wrap for excitement. I wonder if she would enjoy a tunnel.

    1. Ha! "Cat at the end of the tunnel." I'm lucky I don't have one at both ends. I bought two tunnels (this current one was a spare, now brought into use) at Jysk for something akin to $7 each. They have brought excellent returns on the investment.

  10. There is something rather wonderful about watching our kitties make new discoveries and engage in new adventures. Makes us as delighted as it makes them.

  11. Glad he is having fun. I like to flash the laser pointer along the tunnel when a kitty is inside so they can chase it.
