Cats as Innovators

Though they are noted for their love of routine, cats may be very changeable. Just when you think you have a cat’s habits understood, he alters them. Take Parker, for example.

Puck rarely throws up. He has coughed up a hairball or two in the year and a half he has been with me, and I don’t think he’s vomited anything. Now and then, because he loves his food so much, he will eat too fast and it will come up again soon after. When it happens, the result usually ends up near the food-bowl in the library.

I heard the orange boy regurgitating some food the other evening. He is a distraction at meal-times, so he eats alone in the library. I opened the door to find out what exactly had happened. I couldn’t see a mess, so I opened the door wider and walked in. He had thrown up immediately behind the door, the opening of which pushed the piled debris in a wide, smearing arc across two feet of carpet. Yes, indeed. Always something new.

  1. OH yes! Oh yes yes yes! Know that particular pain and hate to say that you made me laugh. Oh no, Certainly not at you. Let see...at PARKER! Yes, at Parker. That's it.

  2. Oh yeah, always fun. I recently had a barefoot bit of "fun" involving Derry's breakfast. :-D

  3. Reminds me of the time that Chuck vomited down the cold air return in the floor. Cleaning that was a novel experience! Why he couldn't have just barfed on the throw rug like every other time...*shrug*

  4. Why should he do it in a normal place when he can keep you on your toes by choosing somewhere new.

  5. Ahh... Welcome to the club, John. I've had cats for almost 50 years now, and I still get surprised. Just when you think you have your cat figured out, he makes a change. Well, it keeps us on our toes.

  6. At least the regurgitation wasn’t on your bed , or on your pillow, at 3AM, on a cold winters night.

  10. Ahhhh yes the regurgitated breakfast! I know it well...sad to say. But Boo will eat too fast too and it will come back up and it always takes her 3 times. So I have 3 messes. ALWAYS! :)

  11. Just when you thought you could put your feet up and relax with a good book. No, out comes the mop and bucket and you are on your hands and knees scrubbing the carpet. I hope this is not a sign of anything more serious and Parker is alright.

    1. I of course keep an eye on the beasts' digestion, as I think every cat-owner does, but I don't think this is a symptom of anything but gluttony.
