Black and White, Grey and Pink

If he could, Tucker would thank everyone who has offered good wishes and support to him in his trying time right now. Instead, readers will have to settle for my expression of gratitude. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

As for Renn, he is almost fully recovered from his surgery of more than three weeks ago. He is eating again – as much as he ever does – and is pretty much his old self. One effect that has left its mark is what I believe is a reaction to the buprenorphine. As one reader pointed out, there is a connection between the pain-killer and hair-loss. This seems to be the case with Renn, who, if you recall, lost handfuls of hair after his operation.

The loss has largely ceased. My big boy shed decently amounts prior to his hospital visit, so some of what continues may be natural. But his hair is thinner in a number of spots. A few days ago, I was stroking Renn’s back and sides and noticed how smooth his fur had become. Upon inspection, however, I noted that I could see his pink skin through the white hair on his back, and grey skin through the dark hair on his sides. What I was feeling was his skin smoothed by much less hair than normal.

I will watch to see if the affected patches re-grow their fur. In any case, simple and natural shedding does not account for this loss, and I can blame only the drug that Renn had not before received. Of course he will not receive it again.

  1. I'm so glad to hear that things with Renn are pretty much back to normal. Once the medication is totally out of Renn's system, his fur should grow back in time. Meanwhile, I hope that Tucker is showing some improvement and that he's feeling better.

  4. Thank heaven! Renn, you keep on this road. Don't you move off it!
Katie had to go for her senior check and her shots You know what happened the last time. It took her over 6 months to come back to her usual ways. I see her leaping up to the desk, the other high places, sunning herself and all the things that she hoes with pleasure. Scared to death they will do something to make her go back to that frightened cowering girl she was for months.

  5. That's such a relief that Renn has recuperated. I'm guessing that the fur will regrow soon.

We're hoping to get equally good news about Tucker.

  7. I'm already stressed thinking about my girl when she has a dental. Right now, all is right with her world. She leaps, is not afraid to jump up...she's playing...but whatever that was shows given last March stayed with her in being frightened for months and months.

  8. Good to know that Renn has recovered, hopefully the hair loss is temporary and there is regrowth. Or he may have to dye his hair blue like the old ladies with thinning hair. :p
