Personalities at Rest

My two perma-cat boys love their sleep, as most cats do. But how they achieve it is rather surprising. Renn you have seen before while he’s been sleeping. He enjoys a number of positions, but when in the armchair, he likes to lie on his back and throw his forelegs out. He will doze off like that.

Tucker has long enjoyed lying at an angle. I think a cat’s legs would be such that gravity would cause them to ache after a while. This is apparently not the case.

In this photograph, I caught both mancats at their snooziest. (A good caption for the picture may be "New Year's Day: too bright, too early".)

The girlcats in my household, meanwhile, are more conventional when they sleep. Perhaps they are better mannered. After all, modesty is not to be seen when the boys sleep as they do. Everything else may be seen, but not modesty. But a cat will do what a cat wants to do. That too is plainly to be seen.

  1. Oh my gosh! Silly sleepers! I love it! I have no idea how some of that is comfortable for long periods, but apparently I'm not cat enough to understand it!

  2. I just LOVE how they're both sleeping! Chumley never sprawled like that in a chair, but he'd sleep belly up on the floor. None of my other cats did (Annie) or does (the boys). Maybe it's long-furred males! :-)

  3. This is a common view in my household. Except the girls are just as likely to exhibit it as the boys!

  4. That is terrific. I have a couple of cats that will sleep like that. Guess that is the ultimate trust position. Have a great day.

  6. well they sort of look comfy... :) around here the only one that can sleep like Tucker is Ivy - everybody else rolls to one side or the other
*thanks for the positive thoughts for the spice kittens. we are taking them completely off canned food hoping maybe it is just too much for their systems.

  8. They are both very relaxed. Renn makes me laugh the way he throws his legs back over his head.

  9. Does look like the aftermath of a wild party. Is this what happens when you leave the house to the cats? Jessie would always be found in such a sleeping position when she was, how do I say this with out offending the bigger kitties, much plumper? Have a lovely weekend from Eileen and Jessica

  10. Funny boys, those are very interesting ways to catch a few zzz's. None of my cats sleep like that, they're very conventional, sleeping curled up or maybe stretched out but never upside down or sideways.
