Noah is one of the more interesting cats with whom I’ve lived. He’s young yet, of course, and so much of life remains a game to him. What isn’t a game is something to explore. As soon as a cupboard door opens, he is there peering in. When something drops on the floor, he hurries over to investigate. He likes rearranging things. I doubt that it is to make anything into the way he wants it; it’s simply to see how it will look or feel in a different order.
I have several cat-beds placed about the house. The boy likes to lie in them. They are comfortable and he sometimes even comes close to snoozing in them. He never seems actually to sleep, as he is constantly alert to the slightest sound or action that may lead to some sort of fun. But he has relaxed in the cat-beds, and knows what they are for.
Why then, does Noah like pulling them apart, or flipping them over? Surely the bottom of a cat-bed, rough and cold, can’t compare with the proper insides, snuggy and warm. And yet, there he was one day, lying on the bottom of a cat-bed, even though he was on top of it.
I’m not certain if he thought he had discovered a new dimension, or was pretending it was a boat on wooden seas, or had simply flipped something over and was resting until he could find something else to disarrange. In any case, he didn’t stay long on the upside down cat-bed. He hurried off to annoy Cammie or knock about curtain cords or wrestle with a Kick-a-roo. This is life with the energetic, enthusiastic boy, life lived in a rush because there is always something that needs to be done right away. After all, slowing down is for middle age.
Maybe Noah has come up with the newest in cat beds. I think you'd better get on that, John. Sending a hug to all (especially little Tucker)
ReplyDeleteI have a cat bed, my bed, a linen closet shelf, my chair, a sleepy pod, Quinn's new cat tree all ready for her. Where do I often find her? In the shower stall.
ReplyDelete(but she has been using the sleepy pod and the new cat tree)
Why they like what they like will always be a mystery to me.
DeleteOne of my cats used to flip the bed too. I can't remember who though...another trait of the middle aged. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe he likes to leave his own scent on the bed, rather than smelling of the cats who pick on him? Over the years I have tried several cat beds, but Miss Pops would rather sleep elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he likes being elevated a bit. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's anyone's guess, but he keeps things interesting around your home!
the younger ones here tend to sleep in strange places as well....mom says "that can't be comfortable" and yet the kitten is sound asleep :)
ReplyDeleteNoah sounds so much like our first cat Linus. Into everything and always ready to play. He lived to be nearly 20 and was playing almost to the end.
ReplyDeleteTake care and have a good evening.
When Noah upends a cat bed, or rearranges things, does he ever put these back the way he found them? Tidy up a bit? No. Cats.... Jessica likes to open cupboard doors and have a peek inside. Then she walks away leaving them open. Noah is quite the cat. However adopts him will have years of joy and laughter. From Eileen and Jessica
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful he will use a cat bed. Mine avoid them like the plague! Or if they do get into them, they leave a little wet spot behind. Hugs to all. Special hug to Cammie.
ReplyDeleteOh the energy of the young! It is the same with Jessie James Mom's young poodle compared with the more mature girls from my house. He rains havoc down upon the house and they just want a good nap in a sunpuddle :)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how they can sleep so shallowly!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great Halloween! Including treats!

My Hallowe'en was good. There weren't as many children coming by as in the past. A sign of my age is that I took most of the leftover candy to work for my colleagues, rather than eat it myself...
