The Sun in the Afternoon

The sun’s light is shining more and more into the cosy apartment. While it has been on this trend since just before Christmas, it seems more noticeable now that it is March. Perhaps it is simply that I and the cats are impatient for it to shine directly through the windows, now that the month of the vernal equinox has arrived.

In any case, it is nice to see the natural light illumine the beasts as they lie in their favourite spots and feel the warmth on their fur. We still have a ways to go until spring arrives, both chronologically and meteorologically, however. These pictures were taken on Saturday. Sunday it snowed, and the temperature will be cold all this week.

But the cats know a change is coming.

  1. Aw spring😊🌿 longer days. Holly is enjoying spending the afternoons on her window perch. i miss the South African summer I enjoyed in February so I appreciate the longer days now that I am home.

    1. South Africa? Hey, going to the southern hemisphere during our winter is cheating!

  2. Ohhhh, it looks gloriously warm! We've been in a deep-freeze for the past several days, a January-like deep freeze, and can't wait for the warmth of spring.

    Enjoy that sunshine!

    1. It's gone already. I woke up to -19° this morning. It will rise to -4° but won't get above freezing this week. Well, it can't last forever.

  4. We had a day beyond all days this year so far, yesterday. This little girl of mine was going from sunpuddle to sunpuddle. Me, her mom was too. It was very mild...66 degrees F. and no wind. I took one of the most pleasant walks in a long time at 1700 in the late afternoon. It was a great day.

    1. Ah, those spring-like days are wonderful. It's funny to think that come summer, such temperatures will feel far too chilly - but I like them. I'm glad you were able to enjoy the day.

    1. Unfortunately, the weather here is typical, too. I suppose we can't complain too much if we're getting what we usually get for where we live.

  8. We've had some very changeable weather. One day it's 70º, and the next day it's 40ᵒ. But the cats still enjoy lounging in the morning sun.

    1. We've not had variable weather in the winter like this in a long time. But I think last summer did much the same. It's been odd.

  9. We had a fairly mild and dry February but making up for it now with day after day of torrential rain and storm force winds. When the sun does make an appearance, it is slowly moving round and in a month or so should reach the sofa. That is Flynn's favourite spot through the summer days and we know we have to make do with the armchairs.

    1. This apartment is a good one for sunshine, considering its limited views.
