One Up, One Down

Cammie’s recovery seems to be complete now. As she was rising above her latest digestive problem, she contracted a cold. It wasn’t a major problem for her, and thank goodness it didn’t interfere in her renewed desire to eat. Some of her appetite has changed: she so far does not like anything but Fancy Feast, and my attempts to interest the princess in Merrick have been rebuffed, and she now disdains FortiFlora. This latter is disappointing, as it was previously an incentive to her eating. I am certain that her recent stomach ailment was caused by a new food, so I am reluctant to try anything novel on her highly selective tummy. But she is eating her soft-food (well, sometimes she decides that a particular portion is beneath her and refuses without explanation) and visits the hard-food bowl a satisfactory number of times a day. When she wants some kernels and they are not available, I give them to her. I hope to weigh her and the others this week.

Now, Tucker is sick. He picked up Cammie’s cold when she was done with it. The roly poly one suffers much more from colds when he acquires them than do the other beasts. He sneezes (on Friday, I counted nine in a row) and sniffles, little bubbles blowing out of his nose. He wheezes and sounds like a dusty bellows. But he will recover and, in the meantime, I am grateful that he continues to have an adequate appetite. He even plays a little during his illness.

One cat better, one cat worse; a normal weekend at the cosy apartment.

  1. Oh my goodness gracious! Came, thank goodness you are all better and I hope your Dad will try the FortiFlora again in a few weeks. Tucker, the last cold I had was rather like yours. Mom sure did NOT like me sneezing in her face over and over though at night.

  2. Yeah, that sounds about normal in a multi-cat/multi-pet household. We're glad Cammie is eating well again, and are sending purrs to Tucker, that he's over the cold soon! (BTW, too bad about Cammie and the FortiFlora, perhaps after a break of a few weeks it will entice her again.)

  3. yay for Cammie but purrs for Tucker....we had that run through here too - Tommy had it, gave it to Mozart and then gave it to Spud.

  7. Oh no! You and your furbabies are just not getting a break. I hope Tucker feels great soon. Good news about Cammie! I'm curious, since I'm a relatively new cat owner, do cats catch colds easily?

    1. As usual, the answer is a wishy-washy one: it depends on the cat. Now that I think of it, though, the two who catch them most often are Cammie and Tucker, and they are the ones who have been / are most often ill for other reasons. Josie has had one cold that I recall and Renn possibly one. But those two are rarely troubled by any physical ailments, and rarely by colds. Tucker is diabetic and has had blockages and gingivitis. Cammie has had stomach upsets and is bordering on kidney failure. They don't get colds frequently, but sniffles or worse do visit them from time to time.

  8. Oh no. One after another. Well your nursing and medical skills are being put to the test. I am pleased to know Cammie is recovered but poor dear Tucker. Eating the dry biscuits is good for the calories and will help Cammie keep on the weight. Now Holly is staring at me emploring me to give her her treats.

    1. If Holly is anything like mine, you get that look for treats often...

  9. Glad that Cammie is better. Tucker is like Ralphie. He is more prone to colds but thank goodness he is a trooper too. Hope all clears up in your house :)

  10. Oh my goodness, it seems these cats like to keep you on your toes. Hope all is well with Tucker soon, and Cammie deigns to eat the soft-food.

  11. Boy, you've had your hands full. It's good to hear Cammie is now well, and hopefully Tucker will get over his cold soon. We'll keep our fingers and paws crossed for a speedy recovery. Cammie sounds like a typical cat - once you find a food they'll eat and stock up on it, they decide they don't care for it anymore!

  12. Interestingly miss pops has never had a cold. I wonder how your bunch get germs when they stay inside with you and have no contact with outside cats.

I hope everybuddy is feeling better soon.

  13. Goodness. Glad Cammie is better and we are sure Tucker will be soon enough. Our new favorite is Baby food. Beef with beef gravy brings all running
