Warm Orange

As many wrote in response to Tucker’s exploration of the cylinder cat-house, it’s fun to see our beasts look into new things and locations. Parker has been with me for more than three months now, and he still finds novelty about the apartment.

Recently, he stepped into one of the heated cat-beds for the first time. He must have liked it because he has come back to it. He doesn’t often stay long in its warm comfort, which I find odd. Even if some of the others, such as Tucker, visit the heated cat-beds infrequently (in his case, usually at night), they normally remain there for some time. But Parker is actually a restless fellow, and likes to try numerous positions and locations for his relaxation. I can’t see that that would be relaxing, but it seems to be his way. He does eventually settle down and snooze.

But now he knows the warmth the heated cat-beds afford. Perhaps when the year turns cold again, he will find their temperatures more congenial. He may simply not need them right now; his sturdy body may be enough to ward off any chill. But he is aware of the beds and their advantages. And, as his knowledge of his surroundings grow, so will his comfort and ease, and that’s good for everyone.

  1. He looks perfectly cosy there. If we had heated cat beds (we're so deprived!), we'd snuggle up in them and not move all day. :-)

  2. None of my cats enjoy the cat beds. I've tried so many over the years. Parker looks so adorable in the one you have.

  3. What a beautiful picture of Parker. He is such a handsome fellow. As you noted, each cat has its own distinct personality. I'm always amazed that no matter how many cats we have, no two are alike. Things are never dull when you have a cat, that's for sure!

  4. He does look quite content. Maybe he appreciates the warmth for a short period only. My Jessie did not like warm beds even with her arthritis. Nor does my Holly.

  6. I have always wondered about what those are made from...

  7. I used to wonder why some of our cats in the past would love to lie close to the wood stove and others did not. I guess, like people,a cat can prefer cooler surrounding than warm ones.

  8. Marty is not one to stay in one spot for extended times either. I am not sure if he just gets uncomfortable or is just restless.

  9. Poppy will spend 10 minutes fussing over getting under the covers and getting settled on a cold night, go to sleep and then only stay 5 minutes before leaving. Yet she will stay quite contently in another spot for 10 hours.

  11. I got one of the heated beds after I first read about them here. All my cats seem enjoy it but the fuller figured ones seem to stay a shorter time. Perhaps they overheat due to their more "insulated" bodies.
