Treatment, Day One

Minuet has received some anti-biotics for her diarrhea. There wasn’t much else that could be done at this point, considering she was examined on Saturday and everything found to be in order, except, of course, the symptoms that brought her to the hospital. It’s felt that she has an infection. She was given her first dose of medicine this evening; she didn’t like it, and there are nine more doses to go, spread over five days.

One of the side-effects of the medicine may be a loss of appetite. That isn’t what Min needs right now but neither is it a certainty; if it happens, it should last only as long as the anti-biotics do. She did eat well today, and I intend to leave her food with her tonight, which I generally don’t do. She can nibble whenever she feels like it.

I will probably isolate her in the library each day. This will allow me to see what she has left in the litter-boxes and what she has eaten from her bowls, without the interference of certain other animals. I will keep everyone apprised of Madame’s condition.

  1. I'm happy to hear that Min is feeling a little better - at least she is now eating and that's a good sign. Hopefully she will continue to improve once the antibiotic kicks in. Please keep us posted.

  2. Phew, she is eating! That is one good thing. Antibiotics can also cause runny stools, Hopefully it wont be bad for her.

I sure hope she's on the mend.

  6. You certainly are taking very good care of her. The best that can be done and we'll just hope that this clears up very quickly for her.

  7. Certain other animals? GASP! You can't mean...HECTOR! I so hope this goes well for her. I don't envy your having to give pills to She who doesn't want them! You are brave beyond compare.

  9. I'm so relieved to hear that she seems better. The one time I had to give a cat antibiotics, it gave the poor guy a terrible case of the runs. I hope that doesn't happen with Minuet; her stomach is bad enough right now. Do her stools still look reddish? That was what concerned me the most.

    1. There was much less red in the last sample I saw. Minuet is locked in the library today, and probably will be each day I am absent this week, so I can tell that what is deposited in the litter-box is hers.
