Deer show up in the middle of my city quite a few times. They probably live in the river-bottom but, considering the number of streets, buildings and parking lots between there and where I live, the number of times I see them is surprising. They are never troubled by humans near by, nor of their automobiles. Yesterday a small herd of them showed up on the lawn behind my apartment.
One relieved himself there. I felt privileged, sort of. Hector and Neville were probably thinking the deer to be rather unsanitary, not using a box, or even cleaning itself afterward…
That one joined his fellows. There were five that I counted (there is one to be viewed between the dumpsters), and they were indifferent to the noisy repairs underway in the alley. This may be the same group, probably an extended family, whom I have seen near my building on other occasions. Sometimes, I have been within ten feet of them as they munched leaves or grass. I am sure that they are suitably cautious of street traffic but I worry about their safety nonetheless.
I guess word is *really* spreading about Café Cosy!

DeleteThey are certainly a graceful and beautiful and voracious appetite animal. I'm glad your boys got to see them so close. Precious lies on my legs in the eve and before it gets to dark to see out, we sit and watch together the herd come thru the yard. Sometimes 15 and they are always hoping I left the bird feeders hanging. Which I do not.
ReplyDeleteBoy, does one of my sons know THAT scenario.
DeleteYou are right as rain. Yours and my FB posting...we have deer! Glad you caught this and so glad the boys got to see them. Any hissing?
ReplyDeleteNo hissing, just close observation…
DeleteMy brother, a former natural resource officer, says this winter has been very difficult on the deer. (Perhaps not as much where you live). This has been bringing them into the communities. My daughter had four on her street this morning when I talked to her. They've been eating her cedars, which actually makes her happy as she'd like to be rid of them.
ReplyDeleteI live near Pennypack Park, and on occasion we will get wildlife visiting our apartment complex - deer, raccoons, skunks, groundhogs and red tail hawks. Since I also live next to a major road, I always worry about their safety.
ReplyDeleteThe deer in my neighborhood show up at night. But I imagine the kitties enjoyed the watching their new big friends!
ReplyDeleteWildlife are comfortable at Dr. John's!
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while we see deer. Mostly we see ducks as we are close to a lake and a river that flows into the lake. The ducks come up from the river as they discovered that mum puts out seed for the little birds.
ReplyDeleteNow she puts out some seed for them ;)

Everyone knows yours is a good place to visit!
ReplyDeleteEverybody wants to visit the Cosy Apartment! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see deer come to visit, we always enjoy seeing them.
ReplyDeleteBefore we had our yard fenced in, there were deer here, quite often!
ReplyDeleteOnce there were several very close to the house, I could have opened the window and touched them...
I often see them on my way home from work, after 10pm...and have had way too many close calls.
I bet your cats wondered what kind of invasion was going on!
