The Last of the Symphony

For a few weeks, I and a colleague have noticed a new feline coming to eat from the food we provide for the community cats behind our work-place. This new one appeared suddenly one day. He looks to be an older kitten, perhaps six months; though he is the size of the Tempos, the latter are very big for their ages. He is no doubt unrelated to the regulars of the colony, and was probably dumped by a former owner. I decided to trap him and get him fixed.

Yesterday’s attempt was a failure but on only the second try - this morning - I was pleasantly surprised by success. I had arranged with a local veterinarian to bring the little guy in as soon as I had caught him. That’s unusual for animal hospitals, but I have a good relationship with this hospital and with the perma-cat’s doctor. I will call when they open and see about bringing their new patient in. I have named him Coda, which is a musical addendum that comes at the end of a long piece, such as one which has five movements (eg. Presto, Allegro, Andante, Vivace and Largo…)

I think Coda is a boy, which will make working him into the schedule at the hospital easier than if he were a female. He may already be neuetered, though I doubt it. I will have him given his shots, and tested. If he is feral, which I suspect he is not, he will be released behind my work-place and join the colony there; he already knows it’s where he can obtain food. If he is not feral but needs socialising, then I guess I will have another cat living with me…

But this is the last piece of music I can listen to for a while. Really.

  1. Coda, you fell into the right hands, believe it or not. In a way, if Coda is feral and to be released, I hope it is a girl. I figure more girls spayed is less kittens for sure. Best of luck and glad you get into an appt. so quickly.

  2. Congratulations on trapping him (or her) so quickly. Coda, you're very lucky, even if you don't realize it yet.

John, your musical repertoire is certainly expanding! πŸ‘€

  4. Ohhh! I hope all goes well with Coda and that he/she isn't feral. Though TNR would be easier for you! I suspect they will be the newest resident at the Cosy Cabin, though.

  8. Coda sure is a cutie. I'll be interested to hear if Coda is returned to the feral colony or if he or she becomes the newest resident of the Cosy Cabin. But in any case, John, I'm not sure I believe that Coda will be the last piece of music you'll be listening to for awhile.

  9. I know what you mean about it being the last piece of music. The time comes when we have to draw a line for the safety and health of the ones we have now.
