Xanadu is at the veterinary hospital right now, recovering from his neutering. All went well. He has received the proper vaccinations, and treatments for anything inside that he might have in the way of worms and what not. A bit of a surprise to me - and the others in the rescue-group - is that Xan is eight months old, rather than six. That he required a doctor examining him in a hospital setting to determine this demonstrates how youthful my foster-cat appears. He will be moving off his kitten food and on to a variety of good quality food for adult cats, now.
Better news is that there is a family interested in adopting him. A preliminary interview by the rescue-group left us with a favourable impression. A lengthier conference, via Zoom, will be held this Saturday. The family is headed by a couple who, while not middle-aged, are not young kids, either; responsibility in pet-owners is, of course, vital, but especially so in the case of rambunctious and curious cats like Xanadu: kittenish enough to want to investigate everything and old enough to use agility, speed and strength to do it.
I worry about him in a new home, but this is why he was brought to mine: a temporary shelter, a refuge for recovery and rehabilitation, an inn on his way to his true destination. If this family is his goal, then I will be glad to send him on his way.
Fortunately, I have many pictures of Xan to keep, including this one, from his official portrait-taking a couple of weeks ago. It is, in fact, not characteristic of him, as it shows him with a kind of Oliver Twist look to him, when he has more in common with the Artful Dodger. I wonder if that makes me Fagin…
As long as you don't feed him gruel, I believe he will overcome all orphan obstacles. Actually Xanadu is quite the handsome fellow. If your perma cats could help with the Zoom Saturday they would.
ReplyDeleteHe has such a beautiful little face. I'm not surprised that he's already getting adoption offers. I hope that this couple turns out to be an ideal match for him.
ReplyDeleteHe has such a sweet face. ♥
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the neutering went well and that he has a potential forever home lined up. I will keep my fingers crossed that Xanadu's adoption (whether soon or not) turns out as well as that of Scout and Smudge. :-)
That sweetie deserves to find his happy home!
ReplyDeleteJust want to smooch dat face!
ReplyDeletePaws are crossed that Xan has a furrever home soon, and I like your analogy of fostering as a inn or waystop in the cats' lives.

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that all went well with Xan's neutering. He is such a handsome boy, it's not surprising that he already has folks interested in adopting him. I agree with you that Xan has more in common with the Dodger than he does with Oliver. After all, he has stolen the hearts of many of your readers!
ReplyDeleteHe is a sweet looking young mancat...I will probably always see him as a kitten though. I hope the family know and is willing to handle a rambunctious kitty!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Xanadu's neuter went well. And it's exciting (but we understand how you have mixed emotions) that there's someone interested in adopting him. :)
ReplyDeleteWe hope this handsome young man finds a loving family.
ReplyDeleteGreat news to wake up to...

My question from the last post has been answered. I'm glad to hear he's doing well and will soon be finding his forever home.
