Concerning the Very-oldster

Despite how she relaxed in both sun and shade on the weekend, Minuet is now not feeling well. For the last few days, her appetite has been diminishing; she has no interest in eating. She seems to lie uncomfortably, always on her belly facing forward, as if she can’t find any better position, and she often lies next to her water-bowl, as if that brings her encouragement, though she has no trouble drinking. Her litter-box routine is still good, she gave a decent poop this afternoon, and she has kept down what little she has eaten and drunk.

If this were a younger cat, I would let the situation wander for a few days. Even Renn, at fifteen, goes for a day or two without much of an appetite, but he rebounds later. I know his habits, and for him to skip a meal or two would not alarm me overly much. But Min’s current behaviour is not like her and, with her accumulated years, she cannot take many missed meals, and an unusual posture while snoozing may be a warning.

I will be taking Madame to the veterinary hospital tomorrow afternoon. I dislike doing this, as I know how it upsets her, but it must be done. Fortunately, the doctor, knowing of Min’s great age, has made an opening for her. Some kind thoughts for my very-oldster’s ease would be appreciated. I will let everyone know the outcome of the morrow’s appointment.
