I wonder if Hector’s perception of the outdoors is typical of most cats’. I doubt it. I don’t know that he is typical of cats in anything.
Hec enjoys sitting at windows, looking out. Since the warm weather came in the spring, he has especially liked the windows and the glass door to the concrete ditch being opened to their screens, so that he can smell the outside, and hear it, too. One day, early in spring, he observed me, outside, in the ditch, replenishing the outsider-cats’ water- and food-supply at Café Cosy. My presence there startled him. He didn’t know what to make of it, and he ran back into the room. When I returned inside, he was untroubled. Perhaps for the little Turk, I was an inside creature only, and the image of me beyond the apartment was a doppelgänger.
Eventually, after repeatedly seeing me outside, in the ditch, he came to understand that it was still me, the same human, inside and out.
This weekend, for the first time, Hector saw me through the bedroom window. My presence there startled him. He didn’t know what to make of it, and he ran back into the room. When I returned inside, he was untroubled. Perhaps for the little Turk, I was an inside creature only, and the image of me beyond the apartment was a doppelgänger.
I think he may have to learn the same lesson at each window…
That's cute and funny! Hector must be starting to think there are multiples of yourself, LOL!
ReplyDeletePrecious used to be the same way about watching me through the windows. When I would come up to a window and try to let her sniff me through the screen she would just run away. But now many years later she's used to seeing me outside and just waits for me to hurry up and get inside and find her crunchies.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that Hector has'nt been snapped
ReplyDeleteup in a forever home...he's just right for it...and
his new family would love him...!
Hope Neville never goes...HeHe! Cos he's my
favourite...! Bless!x
Your last sentence just got me laughing out loud and startled Katie! .
ReplyDeleteAND I love his middle name...Fortescue. Hector Fortesque Bellen.
DeleteIs this your polite way of saying the Hec's flag doesn't go all of the way up the flagpole?!?
ReplyDeleteHahaha, he's a delight, if a bit slow on the uptake.
I agree with Willie - Hector is so cute, he'd be perfect for a "furever" home.
ReplyDeleteHe probably just thinks you are confusing!
ReplyDeleteHector I must admit that Boo does the same thing to our Mom when she is outside. Annabelle for some reason it doesn't bother.
ReplyDeleteI had a similar thought to Eastside Cats. Hector is cute but perhaps he isn't the brightest bulb.
ReplyDeleteWe may have reached Peak Hector with this one.
ReplyDeleteThat happened to Mom with Reesie recently.
ReplyDeleteHe is funny! Maybe you will have to deliberately appear at each window so he gets used to it being you.
