Grief

Tungsten died today. Like Bear-Bear, thirteen months ago, her slow decline accelerated tremendously in her last week. I took her to the animal hospital at eight o’clock this morning, and she left me about twenty minutes later.

I will write more about her life and death another day. This is just to announce the passing of my friend, my constant companion of seven and a half years; the orange one, the tiny terror, top-cat of my household, and feline queen of my heart.

  4. [This is the poem that wrenches my heart the most. May you find peace after darkness. -Kim]

    For When They Leave Us…

And God asked the feline spirit
“Are you ready to come home?”

“Oh, yes, quite so”, replied the precious soul.
“And as a cat, you know I am most able to decide anything for myself.”

“Are you coming then?” asked God
    “Soon”, replied the whiskered angel.
    “But I must come slowly
    My human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.”

“But don’t they understand?” asked God -
    “That you’ll never leave them?”
“That your souls are intertwined, for all eternity,
That nothing is created or destroyed,
It just is . . . forever and ever and ever?”

“Eventually they will understand” replied the cat
“For I will “Whisper” in her heart – that I am always with her.
I just am . . . forever and ever and ever!

  26. Awwww, NO! Oh, how we do understand how you feel. Mom especially understands about the kitty of your heart part...she said we may love lots of kitties in a lifetime, but there are only a very few that are our soul kitties like your Tungsten was. We are all so very sorry, but know that now Tungsten, like our Tiny (who left us last month at the age of 20 years), are no longer hurting and are surely playing and being silly RIGHT NOW on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Tungsten with Bear-Bear and Tiny with Lautrec. And one day, they will have us with them again and life will be truly perfect!! Until then, we wish you much love the the support of the rest of your gang who surely love you very much, too. Purrs and headsets, Elioth and Chouchou (and daDawgs Ellwood and Ginger)
