Doors That Are Now Closed

I think the worst thing about a person or animal going before his time is all the possibilities that won’t happen.

Cammie has always felt about Parker a little differently than she has the other cats. This feeling didn’t appear to progress, and certainly didn’t become friendship, but over time it may have done. Now, I’ll never know.

Last night, Parker jumped on the bed for a snooze. Cammie is often there already, perhaps between the pillows. She looks up when Parker disturbs the bed but doesn’t move or make a sound. She settles back to sleep, even if Parker is just inches away.

Then, last evening, I noticed this. Parker’s tail was actually touching the princess, and she accepted it. I can’t think of any other beast of whom she would be so tolerant. Usually, there would be a hiss, a growl and a re-arrangement of positions. Not with Parker.

Why are some cats different than others, especially to other cats? What is it about Parker? What does Cammie see in him that is lacking in her other roommates? What does he lack that they have? It is an insoluble mystery; at least until that time when all mysteries are solved. Cats are spared thinking about possibilities; people are not. Sometimes I envy cats.

  1. Your observations about Cammie and Parker are interesting. It's been observed that animals are aware when another member of their group is ill and they will try to help the sick one. I wonder if this is what's happening with Cammie and Parker.

  2. It is nice that your two patients are bonding and finding some comfort together. We can all be soothed by the smallest of touches.

  3. It is heartwarming to see Cammie letting Parker get close to her. Cats can sense things that we would never know of and I am sure she senses that Parker is ill.
When I had cancer the first time I am positive that Flynn sensed it well before it was diagnosed. He suddenly took to laying on my belly and purring. He had always laid on my chest before then.

  4. I agree, I'm sure she senses Parker's illness. I think that cats (and other non-humans) are fortunate not to dwell on the possibilities. To do so can be a huge burden to the human mind, sometimes. Continued thoughts and purrayers to Parker and to you all.

  5. I wonder as well if Cammie, though she too has illness, is aware that Parker needs help.

  6. I wish we could understand what goes on in their minds. It's wonderful to see Cammie tolerating Parker so well, and perhaps like others have said she is aware that all is not well with him. There may be some comfort given and received in the slight touching.

  7. we as humans, tend to to think we are smarter than the animals that roam this earth, be they domestic or wild, yet in many instances, the sensibilities of said animals far out way that of man. I truly believe Cammie knows Parker is ill, and with that, before I forget; please check this link out at your conveneince; there's always a ray of hope ♥♥

    1. I have sardines among my supplies, and I will be buying more. I had forgotten them, but I think they will be on Parker's menu this evening. Thank you!
