Raleigh
visited his doctor today. The results of his examination were a bit
disappointing to me. After more than a month on the increased dosage of
Prednisolone, his stomatitis is only marginally better.
It
is still showing itself around his canines at the front of his mouth, but also
at the back, where there are no teeth. It is because of this that the doctor is
hesitant to remove Raleigh’s remaining teeth: while it may help some, it
probably won’t do away with the stomatitis, and will merely add to his stress
and discomfort.
Right
now, the veterinary wants to consider the matter. For myself, I am against
further surgery, as I don’t think its benefits are greater than its
disadvantages. Raleigh remains on his previously prescribed amount of
Prednisolone.
As
you can see, his time at the hospital was very stressful for Raleigh, causing
his eye to run with the usual goop that oozes when he is frightened. Afterward,
however, he seemed not to have been bothered by the interruption in his
routine, and merely reminded me that I was late with dinner. Following a
satisfying meal, he settled down into a cat-bed for a well-deserved snooze.
Disappointing or not, the examination was forgotten; Peachy was home again.
I love the bottom picture. Even though Raleigh had a vet visit, he looks so relaxed and content. It was disappointing to hear Raleigh's stomatitis hasn't cleared up, but he is eating well, and he doesn't seem bothered by it, so that's something to be thankful for.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Raleigh will sometimes not feel like eating a meal, but he makes up for it at the next one. I take that not as a sign of a sore mouth but as a symptom of his FIV, letting the odd bug magnify its effects for a few hours before subsiding again. He had gained a little weight (and has weighed more at each vet visit), so he is eating enough in terms of bulk.
DeleteAh! Bless! Fingers crossed and
ReplyDeletea little prayer..lets hope it
all works out..And, a cats happiest
time..in it's cat bed..asleep!x
I am sorry that Raleigh's stomatitis hasn't shown much improvement. He does look relaxed and happy back in his bed, and hopefully hasn't started running from you again.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry the outcome wasn't what you had hoped. But look at how far Raleigh has come! I was struck by your writing that he didn't seem bothered by it all, once home, and only reminded you that he wanted dinner. That's amazing, wonderful progress!
ReplyDeleteHe's a strange little fellow, but I am rather pleased that he has come to regard the apartment as his home.
DeleteBlessings to him , his precious little body.
ReplyDeletePoor Peach; life has been tough on him. On the bright note, it does sound like he’s finally feeling that he has a secure home. I wouldn’t be surprised if the vet visits are so stressful for him because he fears being abandoned again.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping the vet comes up with some good ideas on how to further treat Raleigh!
ReplyDeletedood....sorree....we all wayz hope for de best for R selvez & R palz az well....we iz glad ya waz abe bull ta settle in onze ya got bak home ~ ♥♥☺☺
ReplyDeletePurrs to that sweetie, were sure hope that mouth discomfort can be managed easily somehow.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear it wasn't the best news but glad he's slowly gaining weight. Love that last pic of him. He's finally home!!!
ReplyDeletePoor boy! Glad he's home again. It has to be frustrating for you, as I'm sure you wish you could have this issue dealt with for Raleigh's sake and yours too.
ReplyDeletePeachy is home where the care and love is and that is the best medicine. We agree that at times you need to consider what adds to quality of life rather than treat for the sake of treatment. Our Big Buddy Budd was given fluids for his renal disease. He drinks like a champ and hates the fluids so we have them put away in case they are needed. He is heading to 20 with hardly a care. Purrs for Peachy
ReplyDeleteBuddy will make it to twenty and beyond, thanks to the loving care of his dad. What a wonderful home Buddy Budd and his siblings have.
