While my cats will consent to lying next to each other on the bed, even touching each other, inadvertently, different rules apply for different locations. Josie has taken nicely to the heated cat-bed in Cammie’s Corner. She spends most of her time there now; Cammie’s Bowl, with its ample water, is near by.
But she is not the only one who likes drinking from that source. For some reason, Renn feels the water from that bowl is superior to water elsewhere, and so resorts to it frequently. This causes some disruption in my Chubs’s comfort. She won’t always get out of bed to avoid my big boy’s proximity, but it occurs. And if she has been elsewhere, perhaps eating some of her food, she will wait until Renn has drunk his fill before resuming her repose.
Here you can see her waiting, more or less patiently, for her brother to leave. Even so, I almost expected one of her feet to be tapping, and to hear her say, “Are you finished yet?”
The dynamics of cat behavior always makes me laugh. They take turns with everything: the cat beds, the scratching posts, the windowsills, the food bowls, and the cat trees. They're masters at "time shares."
ReplyDelete"Move it, big guy...or I'll move it for you!"
ReplyDeleteYour comment put me in mind of the old “Laugh-in” skit with Ruth Buzzi as the old lady on the park bench , and Artie Johnson as the equally old masher; she always ended up hitting him with her purse…
DeleteLOVED that comment.
Deletejosie; while it's been several since boomer was here and thinked he ruled the house I totally understand where you are coming from and if renn was a true gentleman he would let the lady of the house drink first or better yet not EVEN drink form YOUR dish in the first place because cod what if he has cooties or something and yes renn you are a friend but girls rule you know so remember that ♥♥♥ hugs from dai$y =^..*= queen of the run on sentence
ReplyDeleteNo girl likes being disturbed. So, Renn, get on with it and move along.
ReplyDeleteSometimes waiting isn't very easy.
ReplyDeleteI have two water dishes in the house: a white one and a blue one. Ernie consistently ignored the blue dish; he would only drink from the white. Now, lately, he switched and will only drink from the blue.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever sit down and try to figure out cat behavior, I will wind up in the funny farm.
During the last year of Cammie’s life, when she was blind, if she went to drink from her bowl and bumped into Renn, she’d explode, so I tried to keep my big boy away from that corner. Now, I don’t feel that I must - but it would still be nice if he drank from one of the other six bowls available. And yes, the sudden switches are maddening, especially when it comes to food.
DeleteHeHe! All change..when the music stops..! :).
ReplyDeleteIf anyone could give an explanation for a cats
behaviour..they'd make a fortune..but, who wants
to know anyway, that's one of the things that
makes them so special, and, why we love them so
much..!
Yes, she definitely looks like she is thinking, "Hurry up and get on with it."
ReplyDeleteThey were! I know they were! Tapping impatiently.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely.
