It’s an easy-going Saturday here at the Cosy Apartment – which became quite a bit cosier with the snowfall that began an hour ago. It’s coming down thick, wet and heavy; I and the cats will be staying inside, warm, dry and comfortable.
I caught Horace peering out at the disagreeable weather. I wonder if he thinks of his time outside, homeless and having to sleep where he could, and contrasts it to now. I doubt it. I don’t think cats have memories in quite the way we do. They recollect, of course, but the phrase ‘do you remember when…?’ probably doesn’t occur to them in any form.
But I think Ivory may have been pondering the cold and damp snow and comparing it, at least unconsciously, to his welcoming spot on the top platform of the cat-tree. Whether he is actually grateful is problematical. I am unbothered if a cat isn’t thankful for his rescue. The fact that Horace doesn’t appear worried by the unpleasantness outside is thanks enough.
I'm sure the cats are all happy to be warm, safe and comfortable in the Cosy Apartment. But I always worry about all the cats that don't have a home and must deal with the bad weather the best way they can.
ReplyDeleteWe're pretty sure they do remember. And we bet Horace is super glad to be inside, safe, warm and loved.
ReplyDeleteI think Horace is thinking how lucky he is to not have to cope with the bad weather any more.
ReplyDeleteAt least your all snuggled up and warm...
ReplyDeleteIn the Cosy Apartment...
The snow is on the other side of the glass..
And that's what counts...! Bless!x
Agh, it seems too early for snow, though I know it's really not. I hope it melts quickly though, and that everyone has a warm, cosy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWith the approach of bad weather it's very easy to ponder on the lives that cats have when they're still outside. It's a wonderful feeling when we have ours inside where they belong. I am sorry that you have snow already.
ReplyDeleteSNOW!!!! I know it will be here in IL soon but after the first snowfall I'm done with it!
ReplyDeleteMine are missing the open windows. Does your crew miss that when the cold weather hits?
Yes, Hector loves the open windows. He'll sit at the screened door to the concrete ditch for hours. Horace too loves the fresh air and outside scents, only a little less than Hec.
DeleteCats are like people: some can put bad memories behind them and be happy in the present, others are left with a certain amount of mental pain. I do think animals "remember" in much the same way as people do, and they do feel gratitude, even though some may express it more than others. Horace, and all the rest of your crew, must be especially happy to have a good home once the weather starts turning bad. Although, as others here have noted, our indoor cats are a reminder of all those other felines who aren't as fortunate.
ReplyDeleteI spin my wheels thinking and worrying about outside kitties having to deal with a lack of food most of the time...not sufficient food I should say; and dealing with the weather. And unkind cruel and vicious people. If I could have a magic wand, outside helpless animals would be the first I would wave that wand over and for.
ReplyDeleteI do think Horace prefers his circumstances to now than before!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the Kootenays (well almost the Okanagan) we were not supposed to get snow - only a "few flakes" according to the weather guessers! Now we have about 6 inches and it is snowing again. The cats go from the front door to the back door, hoping that the snow will be gone...Keep warm and keep being awesome.
ReplyDeleteLucky Horace to have found his way into the comfort of the Cozy apartment. I concur, today is a day to stay indoors and stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI've been out once to shovel the drift that always ends up blocking the garage door, but the snow is still coming down and blowing a bit so I expect we'll have to do it again in the morning.
Horace is so blessed to be inside, now, and oh so cozy and comfy!
