Sun-dog

Today, the weather is cool and wet, but we had a period during my holidays when the temperature soared (to about 38° Celsius (over 100° Fahrenheit)) and the sun blazed unobscured by cloud. The cats alternated between enjoying the heat and trying to escape it.

My big boy, Renn, is not usually a sun-cat. He can take it or leave it, but there was an evening, as the light shone through the bedroom window, when he either delighted in it, or simply didn’t want to expend the effort to move. He can be a lazy animal, complaining in the mornings if I disturb his rest to make the bed, even though he just spent the night sleeping. So it was difficult to determine this time whether he was bathing in the rays or pretty well oblivious to them.

In any case, here he seemed to be getting some much-needed (or, probably, some much-desired) rest. The lazy dog.

  1. I loved the photos of Renn. I was surprised that the weather in Canada was so hot so early in the year. But I can't blame Renn for being lazy in hot weather. So am I. :-) My cats don't seem to like being warm either, so many times I'll leave the fan or the air conditioner on for them during the day while I'm at work. I figure I'd rather pay a high electric bill than a vet bill caused by the cats coming down with a heat related problem.

    1. Canada can be very warm, especially here in southern Alberta, but you are right in thinking it is usually later. But it's not unprecedented to have such temperatures so early; too hot for me - but not, clearly, for my big boy.

  3. Oh look at Renn's face. Sweet dreams. I hope Cammie continues to recover - it is awful having tongi to work worrying about a sick cat at home. I always worried leaving Jessie but having to be home for her 8:00 pm medications meant I could not work too late.

    1. My day is regulated by Tucker's insulin injections. I'd rather have to wake early on holidays to give him his shot than not have him around and sleep in. I am certain you felt the same about Jessica and her medicine.

And Cammie is doing well; tonight, she even chased a red dot for a brief moment.

  4. It always amazes me how they can sleep in that position. He looks totally relaxed. I envy him.

    1. As someone wrote of Renn after viewing picture of him in his cylinder-house, he is quite a contortionist.

  5. He looks very content lying in the sun. We don't get extreme temperatures here, 70 is considered very hot. Even on our hottest days Flynn likes to sleep in the greenhouse.

    1. I envy England its moderate climate. I suspect my beasts would need their heated cat-beds there, they're so accustomed to the weather here.

  6. I love these photos of Renn. I think of all your cats, he's my favourite, because he's such a "Chumley" cat, even though they are not similar in appearance other than being long-haired tabbies. It's just the photos you post, his mannerisms, etc. :-)

P.S. I'm glad to read Cammie was feeling well enough to chase the red dot, even briefly!

    1. It's funny how we can be reminded of something just by a look or a pose. I find those reminders both sad and pleasant.
