Aurora went to her new home this afternoon. The first report is encouraging. She was scared, of course, but nonetheless came out of her carrier readily, and was not very shy about meeting her new person. I am not worried about her eventual adaptation to her novel surroundings, though being an only cat will likely take some getting used to. Nonetheless, I think that, with an attentive person, she will not miss other felines much.
Even so, the worst part of fostering remains the dispatch of a cat to her new home and family, no matter how nice they may be. It is the fact that the change cannot be explained. From their point of view, the adopted cats have been abandoned by the people they had come to know so well. Aurora was sleeping peacefully minutes before she was placed in her carrier.
It must be this way. She will have a loving home and another cat will have the chance to be taken into foster-care. In this particular case, Auro will no longer contribute to Imogen’s stress, and that will be appreciated by all here in the Cosy Apartment. But Aurora will be another cat whose unique personality will be remembered, even as her memories of her erstwhile home disappear.
Best wishes to Aurora! I'll look forward to hearing about her adjustment to her new home.
ReplyDeleteAwww wishing her a wonderful life. You have prepared her well.
ReplyDeleteMy best wishes too, I hope she settles in quickly and truly has found her forever home. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI also hope your next foster doesn't rekindle Imogen's (or anyone else's) stress.
Best wishes to Aurora. I hope she settles in well in her new home.
ReplyDeleteAh! Bless!x Hope she settles into new forever home...!
ReplyDeleteLot's of new things to poke her little nose into...! :).
Sweet Aurora please enjoy your new home.
ReplyDeleteDearest John,
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Aurora was sleeping peacefully during her final minutes at your Cosy Apartment.
It certainly will feel raw—as you loved her!
Thanks for fostering kitties and for letting them make the transition to adoption—knowing and trusting people.
Hugs,
Mariette + Kitties
I am so glad she has a home of her own. I know what you mean about not being able to explain why there is a change...that it's not abandonment..it is a loving opportunity for her. Hopefully, with lots of loving, holding, and special attention, her fears if she has any will dissolve into nothingness.
ReplyDeleteI've always found it deeply sad and frustrating that we can't fully communicate with our cats. When they're under the weather, they can't explain exactly what's wrong. When we have to give them medicine or take them to the vet or a new home, we can't make it clear that we're just looking out for their best interests.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I hope Aurora will be very happy with her new perma-person.
Bon Voyage, Aurora!
ReplyDeleteHope we hear how you are doing in your furrever home.
Sending purrs and prayers for an amazing happily ever after for Aurora and her new family.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to sweet Aurora in her loving new home.
ReplyDeleteI hope Aurora is happy in her new home
ReplyDeleteI do hope the adoption goes well for Miss Aurora. Perhaps once she is settled in her adopter will decide she needs a friend!
