I received a telephone call from the veterinarian about fifteen minutes ago, and was told that Tucker’s surgery went well. A great deal of tartar was removed and two teeth extracted. I thought more would have to be taken out. His blood sugar numbers were low before the operation but still within normalcy; they were raised a little for the procedure. I asked the doctor if the low amount could be due to Tucker receiving insulin (even half his usual morning dose) without having eaten food. This was the probable cause. Even so, he was in no danger from that regard.
The roly poly one is recovering and I will pick him up after four o’clock today. I requested that any anti-biotic and pain-killing medicine be in liquid form, for easy application, and will talk about how those substances will mix with his insulin. But soon Tucker will be safe at home; sore and hungry, but relieved and happy.
Thank you to everyone who expressed an interest and best wishes for this sausage of a cat. I will keep readers apprised of his improving condition.
So happy to hear Tucker's procedure went well and that he'll be home soon!!!
ReplyDeleteHe's home now and purring a great deal - a little glassy-eyed still but happy.
DeleteWhat good news to hear all is well with Tucker! He may be a little groggy when you get him home, so you might want to separate him from the other cats for the evening. Also, you might want to ask the vet about any adjustments you need to make regarding his insulin dosage in case he doesn't feel like eating his normal amount of food. I'm so glad he did well!!
ReplyDeleteYes, his insulin will be reduced tonight and tomorrow. I think he is hungry enough to eat a lot, but I will be rationing his food for a day or two.
DeleteThanks so much for the update! By now you probably are on your way to pick him up. We're glad he did so well and lost only two teeth. Lots of purrs to him for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteHe's home and pleased, purring and kneading a great deal.
DeleteOh that is such a relief for both you and Tucker. You and he will feel so much better when he is home. Will he go straight to his Food dish when he gets home? My Jessie did when she had her tooth surgery and cleaning. And was greatly miffed that she was not permitted to eat her regular food. Give him a big pat from Holky and me.
ReplyDeleteHa! He did go straight to the food-bowl, but I whisked it up quickly. No hard-food for him for a bit. But I will feed him increasing amounts of soft, so he won't starve, the little fatty.
DeleteThat is great news, way to go Tucker!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad to hear all went well for Tucker. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is great news! I'm so glad things went well for Tucker and I'm sure it was a great relief to you.
ReplyDeleteHope all went well with your own appointment. I hate trying to find a doctor - I've been to several since my regular doctor retired. I finally gave up and stuck with the last one...the fact I hadn't seen him in 5 years is telling.
We're very glad it all went well.
ReplyDeletePurrs,
The Chans
Hope things with Tucker continue to go well.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read yesterday that Tucker was out of surgery and doing well I felt such an enormous sense of relief as most of your loyal readers did as well. His diabetes is a wild card in any surgical procedure. We're praying for a quick, uneventful and comfortable recovery for your dear boy. Kiss him from us and tell him what a wonderful patient he is.
