Cammie
is home from the veterinary. She received another injection of Cerenia, as well
as some sub-cutaneous fluids. I have some Cerenia in pill form to give her, if
need be. I will be force-feeding more Recovery into her, in small amounts,
since she has missed so many meals. She needs both the nutrition and the
fluids. I will give her a dose in a couple of hours, and then see that it stays
down, before providing more.
An
x-ray was taken, as the doctor felt a “thickening” of a part of the intestines,
but nothing abnormal was revealed. I suppose the photo couldn’t have hurt, but
I don’t really have faith in a doctor who looks younger than the jar of jam I
have in my cupboard. When the veterinary technician came out with Cammie’s
pills, I thought it was ‘bring your child to work day’, and I looked behind her
for her mother or father.
If
any more needs to be done to the princess – perish the thought – I hope to have
my regular veterinaries do it. I will be confident that there won’t be any more
problems after today.
Keeping her in my thoughts. I really hope this is the last of vet visits for you for awhile. Give them all a hug for me, John.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I know you are going through your own concerns with Audrey. So YOUR princess is in MY thoughts, too.
DeleteThere's no suggestion it could be IBD, is there? Fingers and paws crossed this will do the trick for her.
ReplyDeleteThere hasn't been any suggestion of it, but it's something I may take up with my regular veterinary this week.
DeletePlease do, John. I think Kea may be on to it. We have to help the Vets really as they sometimes just don't think of everything. Kea has been through so much with her babies. If there is a solid diagnosis or at least ruling out some of the other maladies such as IBD, that is helpful in itself.
DeleteI'm so sorry to hear that Cammie is still not doing well. However, I'm glad that you took her to the emergency vet. It sounds like the vet's treatment of Cammie was appropriate, and she received the care she needed. It seems things always happen on weekends or holidays when your regular vet is not available. But I can relate to what you wrote about the vet's age. Unfortunately, John, I think it's not that the doctors are getting younger - we're getting older. To me anyone under 50 is a kid! :-) Meanwhile our thoughts are with you and Cammie. Please keep us informed about how she is doing. Fingers and paws crossed that she'll soon be well.
ReplyDeleteI wrote recently somewhere that I was wondering when all the doctors stopped looking like Marcus Welby and started looking like Doogie Howser...
DeleteThat is the truth if I EVER read it. Loved your looking for the Tech's parents! :-)
DeleteYou made me laugh at the ‘bring your child to work day’ comment. As we get older, everyone looks so young!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the X ray didn't reveal any abnormality. An expense but peace of mind. I hope the Cerenia and SC fluids will help her feel better now.
Cammie looks so incredibly beautiful in your photo that it is hard to believe she's poorly. We, too, are relieved with the x-rays results. However, if this was not your vet, I strongly suggest, and I mean strongly, that your regular vet examine the x-rays. . Nothing beats experience and familiarity with the patient. It's all in interpretation of information. We've got Cammie in our prayers and we give thanks that you are her dad. ( Fluids can almost seem to work miracles. I've seen it with my own cats. Conquer the dehydration, clinical or sub clinical, and they seem to rally before your eyes.)
ReplyDeleteOh we are purring and praying that today Cammie took a turn for the better. ((hugs))
ReplyDeleteDear Cammie. I really hope this medication works to keep her food down. I am sure the vet and nurse are competent and the X-ray was helpful in at least ruling out more worrisome conditions. But I know without a great deal of experience with many cats and their considerable health matters it can be easy to miss a medical problem. I hope by the end of the long weekend Cammie is back up and eating. And you can have a rest.
ReplyDeleteI,also, have Cammie in my thoughts. Hope she will be able to eat soon and keep it down. Times like these I wish they could speak.
ReplyDeleteOh poor Cammie and you too, John. She's not able to eat, or to keep it down if she does, and you worry.
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope, if this doesn't resolve itself this weekend, your regular vet will be able to assist.
