The latest project involving the cats is to rid Neville of the matts on his rear legs. They are primarily on the backs of these limbs. I suspect that, with his advanced age, he cannot stand long enough in a litter-box to wet, so he crouches. (Cats normally walk and stand on their toes; Nev probably squats on his whole feet.) This presses sodden litter into his fur, where it stiffens. I have to pick the matts out one by one with a comb, as his skin is too thin and the crusted hair too close to it to have been trimmed.
He is naturally impatient with such operations but they must be done. I have almost finished with one foot, but it is slow going. Once it is completed, I will try to keep up with it as it recurs.
Such is another price of aging…
Poor Mr Neville. My Poppy got matted trouser pants too, and as you say they are sensitive. Our vets would kindly shave her when she would have her check ups done.
ReplyDeleteLovely little Poppy; I do miss reading of her adventures.
DeleteA needs must task, but part of life's essentials as we get older. But once done, as you say it should be easier to keep on top of.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely, and eventually, matt-free week.

Poor Neville. Derry would get a bit of litter stuck to his back end, but that was easy to get off. The indignities of aging....
ReplyDeleteWe would be a bit grumpy too, Neville.
ReplyDeleteYou take such good care of Neville. At the moment, that hind leg reminds me of French Poodle hair cuts, lol. I am sorry the poor fellow is aging so. I remember how difficult those times can be.
ReplyDeletePoor Neville. It is a slow but important task. As they say, ageing isn't for sissies!
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happened with one of my floofier cats as he got older. He didn't like me messing with that area, either, and I couldn't really blame him.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried using non-clumping litter? Perhaps that would not stick to Neville's fur.
