Last evening, I heard Imogen crying plaintively from somewhere. She does that once in a while. Sometimes, she is complaining about something, often it’s to gain my sympathy over a problem. This time, it sounded different. I couldn’t find her at first. Eventually, I traced the sound to a cupboard in the bathroom. She had been closed in. Obviously, when I had opened it to take out an item, she had sneaked in.
I was reminded of the time I couldn’t find Tungsten for over an hour. I then opened the closet in my bedroom and found her sitting inches behind the door, waiting stoically.
Such a difference in personalities: Imo could have pushed the door open - she has banged it open and shut often enough from the outside - but instead called for assistance, as if she were helpless. The tiny terror, on the other hand, waited, silent ,and apparently unmoving, for me to smarten up.
Each unique, each very much a cat.
Maybe she was enjoying some private time while trying out a new song.
ReplyDeleteThe acoustics were right.
DeleteYou two got me laughing there!
DeleteEvery day around cats is a new adventure...
ReplyDeleteI had a cat who was fascinated by my pots and pans cupboard. The door only had to be accidently not shut tight and he would be in. Being indoor/outdoor cats I never knew if he was missing, and several times went to the cupboard and found him curled up in the frying pan fast asleep.
ReplyDeleteThat would have been cute to see.
DeleteI, as with most Cat parents, have had the living heck scared out of me with a missing cat. NO sound, no response to calling my tonsils out on the floor...nothing. Opening all the doors over and over and over...still no cat...only to find said cat behind one of the doors sitting in the dark partially covered with clothes.
ReplyDeleteI can relate. I've closed Pete, who is black like Imogen, in a closet on more than one occasion. It's easy to do as they blend in with their surroundings.
ReplyDeleteGlad she let you know she was locked in.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, sneaky and quick is part of the feline way.
