As Snug as a Cat on a Rug

The weather has turned warmer here, for now - it’s supposed to drop to -18° in the middle of the week, and then go back up above zero by next week - but it can still be chilly at night, especially when a wind is blowing, which it usually is here in southern Alberta. The cats enjoy their heated beds at such times.

But Cammie discovered - or re-discovered - the heating pipes during the autumn. She likes to lie against the flat metal covers that line the rooms. It’s one of the reasons why she was often under the Christmas tree when it was up: she could also lie against the hot-water pipe-covers.

She did this in the bedroom, too, but the rugs that cover the floor there are a bit coarse. I noticed that the princess was instead lying on the carpeted base of the cat-tree near by, and that didn’t provide enough room for her to curl up in comfort. The simple solution was to spread a towel on the rug. Cammie likes snoozing on such towels on the library couch, so I thought she would benefit from one in her chosen spot in the bedroom.

I think she has.

  1. Cammie knows what she likes! We have forced air, but there is one part of the floor where the vent was redirected, and the wood floor gets nice and toasty! Chuck made it his napping spot, and we put a towel down, just because a beddy would block the heat. Manny has found the same spot, and now the quest is on for a towel!

  2. Ah, Cammie has a wonderful spot! A soft towel, snuggled up against the radiator -- perfect!

Our temps are "warm" today by comparison to the past 2 - 3 weeks, but of course we're having a snowstorm. No middle ground this year!

Take care, everyone stay warm and stay safe.

  8. Cammie looks so comfortable and relaxed. The gal obviously knows what she likes. We've had exceptionally cold weather lately, so I bought a pet heating pad for Jessica. She'll be 18 next month, so I thought she would enjoy the warmth. She loves it.

    1. The heat must make Jessica's old bones feel good. Judging by their use, I think the pet heating-pads I bought are among the better investments I've made - along with, fittingly, the heated mattress pad I bought for my own bed!

  9. Awww sweet. Miss pops loves lying on a towel too. Still can't believe how cold it is for you - we think 2-3 degrees is chilly here.

  10. Such simple things can make them so happy.
My 20 year old is not faring well and I’m afraid his otherwise healthy life is drawing to a close. All he wants to do now is sleep on one of my sweaters. Something so inconsequential as the world goes but so important to me.

    1. The poor fellow. It's such a good thing that he can spend his last days in comfort, and the company of someone who understands him and his needs. The care of another living creature is never inconsequential.

  11. as he aged; dude discovered that the air coming out of the floor vent was a great place to park his tabby ness; the live long day. I woke one morning thinking the furnace was on the fritz because the kitchen was so cold; no joke; I discovered dude laying on the vent, and at 18 pounds, there wasn't much chance of warm air escaping into the kitchen ☺☺♥♥
