Nylon Tunnel, Mine Enemy

How the different cats play with their toys always interests me. The nylon tunnel has, I think, been a good investment. Tucker likes to sleep in it, as well as use it for playing with me; Josie will snooze in it periodically, Renn will now and then bat at the other cats who are in it (he gets into trouble for that); Cammie zooms through it to startle Tucker.

Parker fights the nylon tunnel. He will tackle it and pull on it, twist it and gnaw it - but only at its end. His wrestling matches with the nylon tunnel often conclude with the tunnel bunched up against a chair, or pushed against a wall. I suspect the bouncy nature of the tunnel, the way in which it springs back into shape, fascinates him in some way, though this is speculation. And why it doesn’t intrigue the other beasts in the same manner, I don’t know. But then, none of the others share Renn’s study of water. Each to his own.

Whatever the cause, I am glad that I have yet another toy for the diversion of my furry roommates. It may not have been intended for such a use, but that’s of little significance. Like the fun provided by a box rather than its contents, it is the result that counts. And my sturdy orange-boy seems to like the results when he fights with the nylon tunnel.

  1. I know the feeling! Manny found a five-inch length of a plastic straw, and played, bit, tossed, and enjoyed it's presence for days! Oh sure, he likes the catnip toys and wand thingies with feathers that make a clicking noise, but that straw was...and still is...the bestest toy!

  2. had a nylon tunnel here; HAD being the operative word, as some cat who will remain nameless tuna got stuck in it; was he about to diet to get to the other end....

    1. Poor guy! But it must have been a bit funny, too - which he would not have liked...

  3. I love that Parker is aggressive in his play with the tunnel! He's a "wild man" (what I often call Nicki). Who knows why something entertains one and not another. Perhaps they think the same of humans. :-)

  5. Miss pops had to go to a cattery for 6 weeks when we shifted a few years ago. Apparently she spent each day wedged in a tunnel snoozing.

  6. I love the picture of Parker in the tunnel. He looks so handsome. My cats have a tunnel and catnip toys, but their favorite toy is the Cat Dancer. Who knew pieces of cardboard attached to a wire would be such fun.

  7. They all have their favourites. Eric never cared much for any toys
because that meant using energy. He did have a big black mouse as a kitten that we called Ratty and he would play with that though. He played with Ratty throughout his life but rarely touched anything else. Flynn on the other hand would go crazy for all toys.

    1. Eric sounds like he was similar to my Josie. Her idea of playing is to flop on the floor and wait for the string-toy to swing past her.

  8. But...but...but...tunnels are for travel too! Parker, Cammie, Renn, Josie come on over HERE and play with ME! My tunnel is always at the ready...warmed up and coordinates set. Mi casa su casa!
