Last night I was feeling particularly tired (strange, since I had an extra day off in the middle of the week), so I lie down on the bed for an hour, at about eight o’clock. Despite a light being left on, Sable evidently thought it was my bed-time, and came out from under the bed - where she lives much of the time - to see what was new. She does that each night; when I wake about midnight or one a.m., I see her in the cat-room on a tree under the window. When I rose from my rest an hour later, there she was.
This posed a dilemma for my semi-feral cat, and me. I had not fed her a snack yet, preferring to wait until after my rest. I usually push a bowl under the bed and she eats her food there. Now, of course, she was out in the open. She is still too timid to tolerate my close proximity; when I approached with food, she made as if to run and hide. If I left the food far enough away not to frighten her, one of the other beasts was certain to eat it. She had to go without her snack last night.
Fortunately, there was hard-food available, and Sabe ate quite a bit of that. She must have been confused as to what was going on: the human had interjected an extra day or something, and her schedule was discombobulated. I will take that into account if I rest in the early evening again. Things are back on schedule today, but it’s a reminder of how life can be confusing, even for the smartest outsider brought indoors.
Naptime not bedtime certainly did confuse her. At least there was kibble for her to eat overnight. Next time perhaps just nap on the couch! Lol.
ReplyDeletePoor Sable! But now that things have returned to normal, I'm sure she will forgive you for disrupting her schedule.
ReplyDeleteYes, the non-routine sure can be confusing.
ReplyDeleteCats will keep us on track; they know mealtimes!
ReplyDeleteHow dare you change your schedule and confuse Sable! I am sure she will forgive you though.
ReplyDeleteSmiled at KEA's comment. Yup. WE are the ones who make adjustments..not them. And that's the way it should be, Cats are so treasured a family member.
ReplyDeleteSeems cats just know what "time" it is and what should be done when. Good luck next time you need a bit of sleep. Maybe a sleeping bag on the living room floor. Of course, then you may become the new play toy.
ReplyDeleteAt least we got a peep of the Ghost!
ReplyDeletePoor girl, that she's coming out from under the bed is a good thing. I do hope, in time she feels more comfortable.
