Welcome to 2025 in the Cosy Cabin. The new year started off well: last night I at last had enough sleep. I went to bed at eleven o’clock and slept for the rest of the year…
The cats began with breakfast and play. It was Valkyrie contributing most of the latter. Within a few minutes, she had knocked three of the stockings off the bookcase, toppled the two little tree-ornaments next to the radio, opened both the CD player and the cassette player compartments in the radio and lost four fuzzy mice in rapid succession under the oven.
What Valk cannot do, however, is see the red dot. I have noticed that some cats see it but have no interest in it, while it simply doesn’t seem to register in the vision of others. I have tried to involve her with the dot, but for her, it is just not there.
This leads to some amusement, since she is attracted by action and noise caused by other felines. Brazil, who will chase the red dot with vigour, will be pursuing it about the sitting room. Valkyrie will pause in fighting the string-toy and bounce over to where Brazil is causing a ruckus. Once there, though, she is puzzled as to what is going on. She cannot understand what Shimmer is doing; he must appear to her to be running in circles for no reason.
She certainly has enough to do with other toys - a couple of days ago, she spent half an hour playing with a piece of cardboard torn from the back of a toothbrush package - but the red dot is not a part of her schedule.
Happy new year to you all!
ReplyDeleteValkyrie is keeping you on your toes! How old is she now? In her human teenage equivalent years? Fun times... 😆
She's eight months old (estimated); yes, a juvenile.
DeleteLuckily for her, she seems to have a gift for creating her own amusement. Happy New Year, John!
ReplyDeleteHappy new year to you and all at Strange Company HQ.
DeleteHappy Mew Year from Deb and the Zee/Zoey gang!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The year is starting off decently: I have the day off. I hope your year is a very good one.
DeleteHappy New Year! That has made me wonder if Flynn never saw the red dot either. He loved to play with anything and everything, but like Valkyrie totally ignored the red dot.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if that is a blind-spot for some cats.
DeleteI think so too. Katie for example as well.
DeleteValkyrie certainly keeps you on your toes retrieving toys. Precious used to chase the red dot. No more. She's been pretty good chasing balls in the early morn with the only light the Christmas tree. She's in bed by light. Good luck Brazil catching that dot!
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like she just doesn't see it and she must think those around her chasing it are losing the plot chasing nothing.
ReplyDeleteMay the new year bring peace to your soul, love to your heart, and joy to your days!
My girl pays no attention at all. If I could find the new green dot I would try tat!
ReplyDeleteWe have red, green and purple dots here so everyone gets to play. Happy New Year 2025 from all of us at Brian's Home!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAnd to you!
DeleteIt seems that Val got the new year off to a bang. I had no idea that some cats couldn't see the red dot. I thought they would see a dot moving even if they couldn't tell the color. Is it genetic, like some cats do not react to catnip?
ReplyDeleteIt may be...
