The Roar of the Beast

So far, Raleigh has not made much of a sound. He has tried, and perhaps that’s as much as he will, or can, make. It’s one of those nearly silent meows. Imagine a 1950s movie monster’s infant offspring with laryngitis. That’s as close as I can come to describing it.

To each cat his own.

  1. I heard Manny purr for the very first time today, and he and his brofur have been here for 9 months already. CB purrs when he's petted while half-asleep, but Manny was silent. Today, he coaxed me into petting him as he rolled around on the futon, and yep, I heard it! Yay! Raleigh's big purr will come, I just know it.

    1. What a wonderful thing about Manny. It's a great moment. Raleigh has purred almost from the start with me, but it was silent. His purrs have become audible now. I can certainly live with his raspy meows.

  2. I think it is so cute to see a cat open its mouth to let out a sound and no meow escapes. Then a little squeak. Isn't it so telling that they only learned to meow to communicate with us? Keep going Raleigh we know that meow is in there!!!

  3. He looks very comfortable...no need to roar for attention.

Glad he's enjoying his time with you.

  4. Ahhh, he looks so content on your lap! I'm so glad you were able to catch him. Makes me wonder how long he's been on his own. He sure is doing well with you. Your new title should be "cat whisperer"!

  5. I agree with Eileen, no need to roar. He looks very well settled on your lap. It's a joy to see him relaxing and trusting a human now. N & D send their purrs. ♥

  6. As a side note, it looks like Raleigh is getting the hang of that lap-sitting thingy. :)

  8. Raliegh does look so content on your lap. Cats vocalize to communicate with their mothers and humans and not other cats. (They use body language to communicate with other cats.) So one day Raliegh just may surprise you with a meow when you least expect it.

  9. I’m loving this cat! He looks like a practiced lap sitter. And aren’t those paws so sweet? He’s really going to make a wonderful companion for someone special.

  10. Eric was the same and had the tiniest little meow. He really surprised me one day though. A strange cat had dared to climb the fence and Flynn (who was always VERY vocal) was screaming and swearing at the intruder. Eric flew out the door to back his brother up letting out the most blood curdling screams on the way.
Raleigh is looking very happy and relaxed on your lap.

  11. He looks so comfy. Miss Pops is not much of a lap cat, which I miss.

  12. I love the comments here. It's part of the entire story. They are always caring and loving toward the cats. And Raleigh as captured our hearts for certain.

  13. I have a cat that was here a full year before I knew she could meow and that was so tiny if I hadn't been looking at her face, I would have missed it. Raleigh will talk when he's ready. If he feels like it. :)
