A Successful Day

All of my readers’ good thoughts evidently did what was hoped: Portia’s visit to the doctor went well.

My new girl behaved politely and wasn’t in the least combative. She has come a long way since her first week with me. She was weighed; de-wormed (a pre-caution: she probably didn’t need it); vaccinated; given a micro-chip, as well as physically examined. Portia is reckoned to be between eight and ten years of age, her heart and lungs sound healthy, her belly feels good. Her only problem is that her mouth is suffering from some tartar, and a couple of teeth will need to come out. A dental procedure will be scheduled, but this need not be immediate.

When Portia came home, she was let out of the carrier and neither ran nor hid. She retired to the sitting room and cleaned herself. Soon after, she was enjoying dinner with the rest of the beasts. She seems to have decided that the Cosy Apartment is at least better than a veterinary hospital.

Aside from her teeth, Portia’s claws need cutting and, considering she is still growing accustomed to me touching her, I had hoped to tell the veterinary staff to perform the task of trimming, but I forgot. Since everyone’s good wishes succeeded in helping Portia’s doctor’s appointment go smoothly, perhaps similar thoughts may be directed toward improving my memory. That quality, however, may be beyond salvation…

  1. I'm so glad to hear that Portia's vet visit went smoothly and that she's in good health. I guess all of the good thoughts we sent you did the trick. Unfortunately, I don't think good thoughts will help improve your memory, John. I've tried thinking good thoughts for years, and it hasn't improved mine! :-(

  3. Oh, wow, it really did go well. Sorry she has to have a dental, but then she'll have pretty pearly whites and likely will feel much better.

Those memory trouble can creep up on us so slyly...and then we suddenly realize it. Phooey. Good thoughts, but well, they might go along with some MCT oil, Vitamin D, and Gingko, Irish Club Moss, and Bacopa. As well as PhosphesetylCholine. Check em out!! They really DO help. We use them...and we both still are working, we are seniors:)

  4. I am glad Portia's vet visit went well and she behaved like a lady. I agree with Roberta, thinking good thoughts hasn't improved my memory. I did remember to think them at the appropriate time last night for Portia though.

  5. Good luck with the memory thing. I swear from one day to the next I hardly remember my name sometimes. Just life. So glad to see that Portia came home in Fairly good spirits. Good news for you that she does enjoy the Cosy Apartment. Here she is picking out a chair to relax in and take a bath, just a girl thing.

  7. This is terrific news, we're glad all went well! Maybe that was enough to make her realize how lucky she is to be at the Cosy Apartment. :-)

As for memory: I think we just have too many things to remember now, too many things to juggle. (I like to think that, to give my own memory issues a "valid" reason beyond merely getting older.) I do make a list for the vet now, though, and for my own doctors as well, because it's so easy to become distracted and forget something. Handing them a piece of paper is so much simpler. (Plus the staff at our vet clinic seem to appreciate the organization, especially since we still can't enter the clinic with our pets.)

  8. John, the discovery of notes on my iPhone was a boon for me!
When I think of something that I want to remember, I quickly type it in.
Has been useful when dealing with the veterinarian, because there is so much activity...and stress...and thoughts just fly outta my noggin.
Portia is in the bestest of hands for this current chapter in her life: yours!

  9. I have occasionally gone from the Vet office forgetting one of the important things...cutting back those swords she has on the ends of her toes.

  10. I bring notes taped onto the PTU's roof top of what I hope to see accomplishedwhile there, when she goes to the vet.

  11. That is such good news about Portia. We always forget to mention the claw trimming too. I suppose that gets pushed off when we are thinking of more important issues

  12. With all these cats to care for, with all their different needs, it's not surprising if something slips your mind now and then.

In your shoes, I'd probably forget my own name.
