The Return from Idylland

Alas, my holidays are now over, and I will be going back to work on Monday. I have had a very pleasant three weeks. Though I have to get up very early even on my days off – as I must maintain the sugar twins’ insulin schedule – I was able to have a nap most days, which brought me closer to the amount of sleep I need each day. The real amount is approximately what my cats sleep each day. If I had that, I would feel rested.

Everyone here is doing well. Portia has settled in. She is out among the others all the time now; I feel confident in letting her stay out while I am at work. The perma-cats have adjusted to her and, while there is still progress to be made in that regard, I expect no fatalities, or even mayhem, to result from their interaction.

I appreciated the past twenty-odd days in Idylland. They make up to some extent for the three hundred and forty-odd spent elsewhere. That I was able to have all three weeks of my holidays at once was a great boon to my relaxation; there is quite a difference between three weeks off and two, so I am grateful.

Now, it is back to the routine of the real world. I hope I can remember what day is which: outside of Idylland, if I recall correctly, such distinctions matter…

  1. Isn't it amazing how quickly three weeks go by when you're on vacation but the same amount of time when you're at work seems to go at a snail's pace. I'm so glad that you had a great holiday. The important thing is that you were able to relax, spend time with the cats, and I hope, have fun.

  2. Yes, all good things have to come to an end, sadly enough.

Hope things will stay calm with the cats, when you go back to 'the real world'.

I hope your batteries have been amply recharged:)

  4. I'm glad you had a relaxing holiday. My mom always would say, when she was still working, that three weeks' vacation is optimal: the first to mentally unwind, the second to relax and the third to mentally gear up.

I have 11 days off (including weekends, holidays and bonus days off) starting on June 25th (added that day on), and I find it so hard to return to work even after that much (or little) time away. I hope the transition back the work routine won't be too onerous for YOU!

Take care and enjoy the weekend!

  5. Good to see that Portia is recovering well and blending in well :)
Thanks to you, she will be a pawsome kitty when she is ready for a new home:)

  6. You are right...outside of Idylland, those distinctions are paramount. I wish they were not. Embarrassment can ensue. Re: the several times I showed up at work on a day off. Heeee.

  7. Sounds like you had a good break John. I don't think I've ever had 3 weeks off in 30+ years of working.

  10. The real world ain't all it's cracked up to be, so a few weeks in Idylland must have been terrific!

  13. It hardly seems like it has been three weeks. Yes, those pesky days of the week seem to be important when one is working. I'm grateful to have reached the point where everyday is now Friday for me. I just wish everyone had that opportunity.

  15. You managed to take care of Portia's teeth during that time frame, which I'm sure was very fortunate. Glad you had some extra naps, of course we never get to sleep as much as the cats do. When Monday comes around I hope you're ready to hop on the bike and get to the office. Without a u-turn to take you back
