Our Stockings Are Hung

The stockings are up for this Christmas. Ordinarily, the fancy stocking goes to the senior cat; that is, the one who has been with me the longest, regardless of age. By both measurements this year, that would be Renn. But somehow, the fancy stocking didn’t seem like him. Last year, it went to Tucker, though the roly poly wasn’t with me at Christmas; I think he would have liked the fancy stocking nonetheless. My big boy, however, might find it a bit much.

Therefore, he and Neville get the more mancatly big stockings. Hector receives the plain but darker middle stocking. The little one goes to our littlest cat, Zofia, whose first Yuletide – with me or anyone else – this is. The fancy stocking this year goes to Minuet. Madame didn’t even come close to spending the holidays at the Cosy Apartment, but she will be here even so, just as Tucker was with us last year.

I don’t put up many decorations; too little time and too many cats restrict my choices. But we do have our traditions in the Cosy Apartment, and who gets what stocking is one of them. I hope all your preparations for Christmas are proceeding successfully, and that your cats approve of them.

  1. Angel Minuet took a piece of my heart too, when she earned her wings. Perhaps Sweetie is my Minuet, and I treasure every minute with her, despite those 3 am wake up meows.
The oldsters have so much love to give, even when it's only for a short while in our company.

  2. What a lovely and fitting Yuletide memory of Madame Minuet. She was a lovely kitty and I am sure her retirement months with you were her best in a long time. Now, are the stockings going to be stuffed with catnip? Or canned food? I did not do anything more than put up the tree this year. I never even got the Nativity out and I should have. But somehow this year, as well as we 3 are, I just didn't feel like the effort. But I do love the Christmas time and seeing the colored lights delight me.

  4. That's a lovely tradition, and it seems fitting that Minuet gets her own stocking too. I'm sure she'd approve--particularly if it were filled with something tasty.

  5. I'm sure Minuet would be very appreciative of the stocking and think it fitting. I, too, am curious what will fill the stockings.
Saku has a wand toy waiting for him on the top shelf of the hall closet. I did give him a lamb 'nip toy because I thought he might try to find the latter. He has no interest in the tree this year but has rubbed up against the wrapped gifts several times. He really likes the tissue but thankfully hasn't chewed any ... yet.

  6. Minuet is glad of the honor as are the other family members. I grew very fond of her, as I have of all the fur family. Katie has a stocking with her name on it and she is beleaguering me daily to get it OUT!

  8. That is a lovely idea to give Minuet the fancy stocking. She stole so many hearts in the short time she was with you.
