The Ivory Adventure

This afternoon, Horace goes on a trial-adoption. The rescue-group is confident of this being successful; the adoption counselor who handles such things likes the home to which Horace will be going very much. He will be joining a stable, established middle-aged couple, who already have a cat of about Neville’s age, and a young dog. Hearing descriptions of the people and the residence, I too am pleased at this potential home for Ivory.

If I am reluctant to let Horace go, it is simply because he is the sort of cat I could see me keeping for myself quite easily. He is easy-going, fun, warm and immensely likeable. He arrived on the penultimate day of August, and in less than three and a half months has made himself a place here. However, with the prospect of an excellent home – for the rest of his life - in front of him, it is better that he go, and his place here, eventually, becoming available for another abandoned or otherwise unwanted cat.

This adoption has been in talks for about a week, so it is not sudden, though it is moving a little more swiftly than most. That is a measure of our confidence in it, more than anything else. In a month or so, I will likely be able to inform everyone of Horace’s progress. Until then, I know you will join me in wishing my friend a bright, joyful and peaceful future, a future that he and every cat deserves.

  2. Good luck Horace! It seems your new and hopefully forever family has been well vetted. I'm sure you'll need a little time to adjust, especially to a dog but you'll have a cat fursib as well.
Do let us know how things go. I'm happy to see Horace have a chance at a permanent home, but a little sad to know he won't grace the pages of the blog any longer.

  4. I will miss you Horace and I know Zofia will as well. Who else will snuggle her and allow her to wrap up on them the way you allow Zofia.

We, too, wonder how sweet Zofia will fare, though!

  7. Good luck Horace. I am thankful for people like you that foster. It must be very hard to let them go even when it is to a good home.
