I always enjoy seeing the progress cats make in their relations with one another. I have been watching the evolving interaction between Brazil and Valkyrie. Shimmer has always tried to lessen the distance but Valk, being the new and younger feline, has been hesitant, her hisses coming frequently. Now, though, they are rarer. While she still is wary of the larger cat’s presence – Brazil’s relative size is probably a bit intimidating – there is clearly a desire to play, on the kitten’s part.
It’s amusing to see that while both beasts seem to want to have fun with each other, the introduction to play-time – Brazil’s tail – causes its owner a bit of annoyance that he likely did not anticipate. Valkyrie watches the other’s tail, which switches back and forth the more attention it receives, thus intensifying that attention. Nonetheless, there was more enjoyment than warning in the session recorded here, though, as with most early stages of play, the two emotions were combined without paradox.
As a seemingly irrelevant aside – an aside which is, in a way, a part of every blog-entry, I would like to mention Remembrance Day. Today is the day given to recalling and commemorating the sacrifices made by those who fought and fight for our country. Without those sacrifices, my ability to do something so innocuous as to describe the antics of my cats might be severely restricted. The freedom of such communications as what you are reading right now depends on what people in the previous century did. I thank them for it.
A lovely, meaningful entry regarding our Veterans and certainly the furred family. I enjoyed seeing the poppies and wearing one today and I loved seeing the beasts playing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely thoughts about Remembrance Day. I was so glad to hear that Brazil and Valk have started playing. I had hoped that when you got two new kittens, Brazil would finally find a playmate.
ReplyDeleteProgress, no matter how small, is such a wonderful thing. We will always honor, respect and remember all our Veterans.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely thoughts about the meaning of Remembrance Day and something that should never be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteThe photos of Brazil and Valkyrie playing are heart warming. Brazil has been desperate for a playmate and hopefully he now has one. It will also probably give Nev some peace too.
Your words on Remembrance Day were among the most poignant I've read anywhere, thank you, John.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of the red poppies, thank you. I do love seeing that the kitties are getting along and learning how to play with each other and I'm sure that makes Brazil happy.
ReplyDeleteValkyrie looks like a little monkey, climbing the cat tree. It's nice to see her playing with Brazil too, or at least attempting to engage him. 🙃
ReplyDeleteYour words in honour of Remembrance Day were lovely. We take much for granted, but global troubles remind us that we all live in challenging times. Peace is not a given for so many, and we do well to bear that in mind.
Such tailio excitement!
ReplyDeleteYesterday was our American Veterans Day. You phrased the meaning of both our holidays beautifully. And it's great to hear that Brazil may have a new friend soon.
ReplyDeleteBrazil may be forced into playtime as it appears that Valkyrie is determined to play.
ReplyDeleteSo much truth in your words - much of the freedoms we take for granted would not exist without the valient efforts of our veterans. Even now, it seems they might readily be taken away, if we are not vigilant.
