Renn, Up and Down, In and Out

Renn is making news at the Cosy Apartment this week.

Firstly, he joined Josie and Tucker in the explorers’ club. He, like they, decided to see what was beyond the apartment’s front door. The interesting thing about my big boy and his curiosity is that he is less ambulatory than the other two. He will stay more in one spot, and be satisfied to examine his surroundings from there. He uses that large nose of his extensively. The other cats certainly sniff their way about a new environment, but Renn appears to rely on it more. I have long been convinced that he either is able to take in more with his prominent proboscis than others can, or he simply prefers its findings.

He did move about, but he remained rooted to a few spots over a long period of time; the slightest noise from the far end of the corridor caused him to be wary - and content with staying put. Despite his size, Renn is not overly courageous.

Secondly, and more seriously, he was under the weather yesterday. He didn’t eat, or drink, the whole day, so far as I can determine. He eats very little soft-food as it is, but he was uninterested in hard-food, or even water. He lie in one place in the library, and I could tell he was out of sorts, aside from his appetite.

I am pleased to write that this morning, he seemed more his old self. In fact, he ate more than his wont at breakfast; probably hungry from yesterday’s fast. I hope it all stayed down while I’ve been at work - I am pretty sure it will - and that some of that hunger will continue for dinner tonight. It’s always worrisome when one of the beasts doesn’t eat, and I try to be vigilant, especially coming off Josie’s recent scare.

But I am confident my big boy will be well, and maybe this weekend, even indulge in a little more exploration.

  2. He sure looks like he was quite interested in seeing everything out there.

  3. It's no use being a wild cat, Renn...right? One paw at a time; no need to get crazy investigating everything all at once.
But avoiding food makes your human go crazy, so eat up...unless you want to him to lose his marbles.
    Hehehehe....

  4. Maybe Renn just ate something that for some reason disagreed with him a bit. Anyhow, glad to hear it seemed like a temporary problem.

  5. Renn just needs time to scope things out. :-)

We have our fingers and paws crossed that his appetite and behaviour will continue to be normal, that all will be well for him--and for Josie too. Purrs from Derry.

  6. I wonder if Renn caught a touch of Josie's upset stomach. Hopefully they are both on the mend by now. As for Renn's membership in the Explorer's Club - I hope he doesn't do what my Joey did. One time Joey snuck out without me realizing it. The next thing I knew, a neighbor was knocking on my door wanting to know if I was missing one of the cats.

    1. No, I think Josie's was a urinary infection. I think Renn had something in his stomach that upset it, as Undine suggested. As for Joey - talk about a heart attack! I don't think I'd recover easily. I assume Joey made it back safe and sound?

  8. They are all becoming quite adventurous! I assume that Nev is too nervous to join them in their explorations.

    1. No, Neville is someone I still don't know well enough to let wander the corridors. The others' reactions to everything I know pretty well. Nev might take off if he sees an open door...

  9. The idea of any of my cats since my last indoor-outdoor Robin, would give me a total heart attack. None have ever been out since becoming mine...and this is a busy street out front whereas it is forest in tieback. Either side would be tragic. To get themselves out back and down the mountain in the very full woods...I couldn't take it. Now, Renn, you be a good boy and eat your breakfast and supper. Your dad has enough to keep him concerned for the next 5 years!

  12. Pleased that Renn is keeping his nose
    in..so to speak..after all, l think a
cats nose is the most used part of the
body..it's the first in..and the rest
    just follows..! Bless!
Perhaps you should have called him
    Parker..HeHe! Nosy Parker..! :).

  13. Glad to hear Renn is feeling better! I'm a worrier when it comes to my cats. Renn is so handsome! I love his coloring and his bushy tail!

  15. I enjoy seeing the cats wander and poke about. Precious is
house bound. She glances out into the garage when I have the
inside door open for moments. But I won't even let her there
incase she would want to go farther. If there were an indoor
hall like yours, it would be fun.

  16. Our crew, except Rumpy the great white bump, do much of the same. The first time out every morning they move a short distance and then sit, sniff and watch. I think this is the more prudent way of cats.
