Grateful for Friends

In the wake of Parker’s death, I have received much sympathy and many condolences, as I had been given support while Parker was alive and battling his cancer. I will be thanking each of my well-wishers individually, over time, some by visiting their blogs, some, who don’t have blogs, by replying to their comments. It would be invidious to thank some by name, while leaving others out, but I do want to acknowledge my gratitude to Ann of Zoolatry, who has made the badge below, a lovely and personal tribute to Parker. Many of us have been consoled by Ann’s gifts in this way.

We in the cosy apartment are adjusting to Parker’s absence, reluctantly, but necessarily. I find that I must remember not to set out six dishes for the cats’ meals, and the emptiness of the little shelf above the stove, where I would keep some of Puck’s syringes, ready for use, is puzzling, for an instant, when my eyes rest upon it. But routine is a friend to those who have lost, and I will develop a new routine, without forgetting the cat who helped form previous habits.

Thank you to all those who have contacted me, and to all those who, without comment, nonetheless miss my friend.

  1. What a lovely badge Ann created. She always does. And Parker is set off beautifully. I hope the others are not grieved.

  2. What a beautiful badge for Parker! His presence on your blog will be missed by us all.
You did such a wonderful job of caring for him and I'm sure Parker felt the same. I walk my cat too, so I know how much they enjoy it!
Hope you and the rest of your pack are doing okay. Thinking of you and yours with sympathy in my heart.

  5. You write so eloquently about your cats, I feel like they're practically part of my own feline family. I hope it helps you to know that you have many readers who, even though we'll never meet you or the cats in person, offer our friendship, support, and prayers when necessary.

  8. Ann's badge is lovely tribute to Parker. These days will be difficult as you and the other kitties adjust to the world without him. You'll be in my thoughts.

  9. IT is a very fitting badge for Parker who inspired many with his story, and even though ending are hard, it is always that his life will triumph over this. Yes, learning a new normal is what happens, and that in and of itself is jarring, but just what it is. I continue to hold you in my thoughts.

  11. Ann created a beautiful badge in tribute of Parker. A change in routine hurts and takes a lot of getting used to but it eventually becomes the new normal.
Pet blogging is a strange phenomenon. We get to know and love other pets through our blogs, and when it is time we feel the loss as if they were our own. I share your grief as do all those who followed Parker's story. I continue to keep you in my thoughts.

    1. Thank you. Parker was a good friend to me, and I hope he felt that I was to him. I hope he will tell me that when next we meet. Give Holly a stroke under the chin for me.

  15. That was one of the best tributes to one of our own we've ever read. My favorite photo is the one of him looking out the window with his back to us. It just indicated that he was reflecting on his fate and his good fortune overall. Fly free Parker. Anastasia and Tinker have set a place for you. xxx Tom and Julie Mackenzie
