Acceptance is Acceptable

The cat with whom Minuet has the most interaction is Neville. The Nevsky likes lying on the top of the short bookcase in the library, and Min sees him go there all the time. The only instance when she expresses displeasure with his company is when she is on the couch and he hurries past her, using an arm of the furniture to ascend to the bookcase, rather than climbing the cat-tree.

The object of Neville’s affection in the library is not Minuet, however. It is Minuet’s hard-food, for which Nev has a preference. I leave it out for Minuet to nibble on; Neville knows this and likes to visit the bowl now and then, when he can get away with it. I disapprove of this thievery. On the other hand, it shows how much Minuet has come to tolerate the other cats, or at least the oldsters. She will never, I suspect, integrate fully with the others; at her age, that’s her privilege. But it’s good to see that there is a level of acceptance, if not satisfaction, in her response to the boys.

  1. I bet she will defend her hot spot, though. As she knows you will refill the bowl on demand. Both look soft and silky now with the long fur starting to grow back so well.

  2. Oh my, they're within touching distance. Minuet has come a long way already and putting up with Nev's thieving ways is a small price for the comfort and love she's found.

  3. I share your pleasure that there is this level of acceptance. Putting unrelated cats together can be really challenging - we have done it many time.

  4. I love both of the comments above mine. They say it all beautifully and well. Madam is in her home and has meowed the instructuns on how she may best be approached by the others.

  5. Peaceful co-existence! Hurrah! I'll echo Lynn in that Minuet surely knows that you will refill that bowl, so she hasn't any need of squabbling for a morsel. :-)

  6. Aww Minuet you are a sweet gal and sometimes old ways are hard to part with as any creature ages. I am glad to see your acceptance.

  7. I'm so glad that Min has found a buddy. Min and Neville may never be good friends but the important thing is that there is that they're living together in peaceful co-existence.

  8. That's such a great sign that she permits Neville to take the occasional nibble of her food. As the above comments point out, it shows she's reached a high level of comfort and security.

  10. I'm a food thief too - I even steal dog food!

  11. It is nice that she allows Nev so close even though he does have an ulterior motive.
