Farewell to Idylland

Though I still have Sunday off, my holidays, strictly speaking, ended on Friday. I will be back to work on Monday. While this is rather regrettable, I must write that I enjoyed my vacation.

The most important feature of my holidays is having time. Everything that I need to do each day isn’t squeezed into the abbreviated period between coming home from work and going to bed. What hours aren’t absorbed by work each weekday are taken up by chores at home, leaving little leisure time. My weekends are occupied principally by what I wasn’t able to accomplish during the week.

But during my holidays, I can take time; if I spend an afternoon doing something, I needn’t worry: I will have more time the next day. As the years have gone by, I have felt and appreciated this aspect of my holidays more and more. This contrasts distinctly with the feeling I have even on weekends.

Thus, the days I spent in Idylland were a pleasure. The lush water-meads, the verdant forests, the purple hills beyond; the small villages; the seashore, sandy here and rocky there; it was all most relaxing, even if – or perhaps because - they were only in the imagination.

Life returns to normal now, though I shouldn’t feel discouraged: after all, there are only forty-nine more weeks until my next holiday!

  2. It makes it difficult to think ahead about 49 more weeks. So glad you had time to enjoy at home the freedom of doing things at a more leisurely pace. The cats are really going to wonder after all these weeks this summer where you have disappeared to Monday through Friday. Let's see what Hector does while you are back to work.

  9. I'm so glad to hear that you had a restful, relaxing vacation. We all need time to "recharge our batteries" and recuperate from our daily routine. The older I get the more I appreciate a quiet vacation at home. I've long since realized that running around for two weeks and first needing a vacation when I returned home is no longer for me.

  10. Ahhh, the time sure went by quickly! Glad you enjoyed your time off. Those next 49 weeks will slide by faster than you think...I know they do for me...but then, I only work 2 days a week...though sometimes even that way I feel as though I live at my work.
Tell you kitties you need to refill the food and medicine cupboards...

  11. Ah, I know, as do the rest of us here, what it is to look forward to the next vacation time coming to us. It is a magnificent feeling when it's only a few weeks away. And that first night before bed time...knowing there is no work the next morning- is a feeling made of GOLD! Waking up (those wirh no cats) and just dozing another hour or so...stretching, being one with the bed...warm, just lying there with nice thoughts-- and gratutude as well. Slow walk to the kitchen for coffee...a joy.

Going back to the daily grind is so hard.
