Springtime for Hector

This weekend brought a real spring day to our part of the country. Though the temperatures are supposed to decrease somewhat later this week, and the skies are predicted to rain, it looks like the new season is at last here, a month after the calendar said it had arrived.

No one in the Cosy Apartment is happier about this than Hector. Though he doesn’t try to get outside, he nonetheless clearly misses some aspects of the wider world, and when the windows and door open to their screens, he hurries over to sniff and watch what he will.

The dark knight spent hours lying by the door to the concrete ditch, comfy on the carpeted ledge or lowest platform of the near by cat-tree, listening to and tracking the birds, watching the neighbours, hearing all the sounds and, no doubt best of all, smelling all the fresh scents of the new springtide.

The trees aren’t even in bud yet, but soon greenery will be everywhere, and early blooms will blossom. And, while pleased to be inside and safe, Hec will be just as pleased to be as much a part of the season as he can, perhaps glad to share the best of both worlds, inside and out.

  1. Ahh, Hector!
Da Boyz and Sweetie had their moments enjoying window whiffies yesterday too, and even this morning it was still warm!
To the squirrel that ventured onto the front porch; you'd better be glad that our door lock is secure, otherwise two housepanthers would have had you for a snack!

  6. The other day, you mentioned that you thought Hector was a bit bored. I hope all the sights, sounds, and smells he's noticing from the outdoors are keeping him entertained.

    1. Yes, I think he was quite pleased. (By the way, something funny is going on with Google, I think. I received your comment eleven times! I hope you don't mind, but I just published the one.)

  12. Hector is certainly enjoying the beginnings of late spring or early summer. Precious is the same way every morning with the window open listening to the birds saying and sniffing the air. Here the entertainment is a chipmunk. Hector is so comfortable with you and your home but I know he deserves a permanent lifetime home and I hope he finds one soon.

  13. Smelling the outside world is so great for cats. I'm glad Hec is enjoying it! The weather in north Illinois finally warmed up enough to open windows this past weekend. TomTom was quite pleased.

  15. (Google has changed the way comments are added, I think, and its quite strange...)

Good thing Hector isn't strange, LOL!
He sure enjoys all the wonderful sights and the whiffies as wafting to him on the breezes.

    1. I've noticed Google's latest change. I've had trouble leaving comments, I've received replicated comments, I've had to leave comments as 'Anonymous'... Whatever is going on, it's not an improvement.

    2. What is really strange/annoying is that there was no heads up about that it was going to be changng. :hooey. Always something.

    3. Google is notorious for "fixing what ain't broke." And, usually, making things worse. Like when they changed the Blogger interface a while back. The old interface worked perfectly well, and I still hate the new one with the white heat of a thousand suns.

  16. Lucky Hector! It hasn't been warm enough here yet for open windows and though the forecast is for a nice afternoon, it's currently snowing here (melting as it hits the ground). Saku does get time in the sun room when the sun is out long enough to warm up the room.
