This Just In

This happened a few minutes ago. I was lying on my bed when Minuet came into the bedroom and jumped up onto the bed. There was no warning, no preamble to her action. She of course yelled at Renn and Neville but I managed to get both of them to stay. She continued to shout at them, but also spent time cleaning herself, before getting down.

I had noticed that she had wanted to come up onto the bed priorly, and I had been urging her to use the stairs, but she was reluctant.

Instead, this evening, she jumped up. Does that not hurt her old joints? Maybe, maybe not – but she just did it again. I had led her down the stairs when I perceived that she wanted down, but between first starting this entry and now, she has returned, jumping up once again. There is some issue over Nev’s presence, but the Nevsky isn’t leaving. The more the other cats stay, the more Min will become accustomed to them. That’s the theory, anyway.

This is a big step forward for Madame’s integration, not just with the other cats, but with the other rooms in the apartment. But if she does this at night, how will I guarantee not to knock her off in my sleep or, possibly as bad, have her leap the distance to the floor?

  1. Boy, there's never a dull moment at the Cosy Apartment. I wouldn't worry about Min hurting her joints by jumping up on the bed, John. If it were painful for her to jump, she'd do it once, and learn not do it again. As for your concern about knocking Min off the bed in your sleep: She will figure out where she can lie on the bed safely without getting kicked or knocked off.

  3. You know they tell us old folks that we are to add jumping to our daily exercise in order to strengthen our bones. Maybe maybe Minuet is actually doing herself a favor with some jumping especially up onto a soft bed. I'd say you're having a rather exciting two weeks stay at home for your own recovery. Having minuet on the bed hollowing her head off that poor Neville and keeping Renn's nose wiped. Somewhere in there I hope you're doing well and that you are not jumping. Not yet anyway.

  4. I agree, if it was too painful for her to jump up, she wouldn't repeatedly do it. The old girl has energy and spunk! :-)

  5. I'd say jumping up seems alright with Minuet's joints. She has done it several times without a problem ,or, of course, she would not presist in it. I too would wish her to use her stairs. Especially going down. I hear Katie jumping down occasionally at night from the bed and I worry about her knees. She sounds like a bag of sand being dropped. We have to trust that they know what they can do.

  10. I suspect you won't knock her off the bed because you'll contort yourself in such a way not to disturb any of the cats. :)

I'm sure Minuet will figure it out.
