Young Again

Josie died this morning at 6.45. She had been failing for a couple of months, after a much longer period of merely diminishing. Over the last couple of days, her condition worsened. It was, I think, not just old age, but probably some other complication, perhaps cancer. She was in great discomfort during the night, and I knew that she was not going to improve, no matter what was done. I took her to the veterinary emergency room this morning. She died very quietly.

I will, as always in these cases, write more later, but I wanted to let the world know that Miss Josefina von Chubs, the Great White, my Chubs, was no longer here; she is elsewhere, whole and healthy. My old lady is young again.

    1. Roberta, thank you for your kind words about Josie. She was such a presence in the apartment, and in my life; she was always there, it seems, and now she isn’t. I am glad she is out of pain, and fancy her lying in eternal sunshine, running faster than she ever could through safe green fields. I will miss her.

  5. I am so saddened to hear your lovely Josie is now passed on.
It is always so difficult to see them suffer at all, and now she
has permanent relief from any pain. Only your pain will continue.
I will miss seeing her doing her thing around the cosy apartment.

  9. I am so sorry; Josie sounded like such a sweet, lovely girl. You had said before that she was slowing down, but I thought it was just the normal aging process and she'd still be with you for some time yet.

After a long life, she had only a short period of suffering, a peaceful end, and a beautiful afterlife waiting for her. I know how you must be feeling, but she's free from any pain now, and happy.

  25. John the words are hard to write and I know how inadequate they are to begin with. I am deeply sorry to hear about your beautiful sweet Chubs. Their lives are far too short in contrast to our own. But oh the love they bring us and the love we share, the brevity is worth every moment. You will be missed ever so lovely Josie and your memory will live on in the hearts of those you knew you. I am so sorry John.

  29. We are finding this out now and are heart broken. We loved to hear about the old gal and how she was moving along in her own very defined way. This is such a hard thing to do but is something we must do with love. She is now free and at the Bridge young and healthy and looking back home with a cat smile. Purrs and Prayers from us all John
