Tucker On My Mind

Tucker will be making another of his trips to the hospital tomorrow. He is not doing well. He is very weak and lethargic, and he is eating almost nothing. He seems uninterested in cat-food all together, and all he would eat yesterday were pieces of roasted pork. I have plenty of that to give him, of course, but it is not cat-food, and he can’t subsist on it, or even on chicken, if he wants some of that. And in any case, he is not eating enough of it to survive.

I don’t want the Tuxter to have to take more medicine, such as Mirtazapine, but it may come to that. I will add that to his list of drugs only if it provides a substantial improvement to his life. If it simply keeps his appetite artificially inflated for its own sake, then I may have to consider other options.

I feel that Tucker is winding down. His behaviour is different than what it has been; he seems to be withdrawing from interaction with the world, tuning out quite often, as if leaving his body behind and going elsewhere in his mind.

This, of course, may be largely in my mind, so I will consult with the doctor and see what the best course should be. Whatever route we choose, it will be in my boy’s best interests, and will be what makes him most content.

    1. My boy already receives his fluids thrice weekly, guys. He hates it, but I know it's good for him. I will be asking specifically about the Mirtazapine and will inquire about the B12.

  13. I am sorry to hear this and hope the vet can find a good course of treatment for him. As the Tabbies said about B12 injections, I used to give Flynn a regular injection and it helped him a lot. I can't remember now if it as monthly or weekly.

  14. I am sorry to read of Tucker's feeling so badly. It is a very difficult time for you. Tucker as well, but even more so for you He is loved family, and it is wrenching when they are not well and seem to be distancing themselves because they are so unwell. We most of us know that time of their lives. I will be waiting to hear what the Vet said and I hope that there is something to be done for him. Tucker, be well, loved boy.

  17. Sending purrayers and Power of the Paw to you and Tucker. An animal communicator ralked to my 19 year old calico as she was succumbing to CKD and told me she was ready to go on to her next adventure.
