Minuet

This is Minuet. She will be coming to live with me this afternoon.

She is a nineteen year old lady whose owner doesn’t want her anymore. Minuet wets outside her litter-box, and has done so for the sixteen years that she has lived with her current human. To her credit, the latter adopted her knowing that this little cat had a litter-box issue; Minuet was three years old then, and had been returned four times to the humane society in her town because of her problem. She would probably have been euthanised, if returned again.

Minuet had previously wet immediately outside the box. Now, however, she is choosing other spots in the house. The owner is moving and feels she cannot take her cat with her because of this.

Also, Minuet was diagnosed with diabetes a year ago, and her person feels that the twice-daily injections of insulin are too much to arrange around her work-schedule. Minuet is also likely deaf.

The new guest will go into my bathroom initially, which - along with the virtual destruction of her world and routine - won’t be conducive to better waste management habits. But she will be there only until I see with what she presents me, and then she will go into the library. Auric, who is not ready for full-time release from his isolation, will have to stay in my bedroom while I am absent. As may be seen, this situation is not ideal, but Minuet’s options were very limited, especially considering her wetting history and her more recent diabetic onset.

Minuet is the name I have given her. She has, right now, another which I find unfavourable but which sounds similar enough to be recognisable to her, if she is able to hear it at all. With a new name, a new setting and new views of her problems, she may yet have the chance for a peaceful and content final few years.

  2. I can't think of anyone better than you for Minuet to spend her last years with in this world. While I appreciate the former owner provided a home for 16 years to her, when other would not, I wonder at the abilityt to simply give her up at this point.

She's a pretty girl and I hope things go well in the Cozy Apartment.

  3. Oh, the poor old girl! This readjustment must be so tough at her age.

I presume that all the possible physical reasons for her wetting issue have been eliminated. If it's psychological, I fear the upheaval of moving may make it worse for a while.

And I agree with Saku--I can understand why the owner would have problems caring for her now, but I can't imagine living with any animal for 16 years and then essentially leaving her to her fate. It's so fortunate for Minuet that she wound up in good hands.

    1. Minuet has been to the doctor each year. Her problem seems to be psychological and I agree: this huge change will probably not be good for her. But we’ll do what we can for her.

    2. Ditto. It's mind-boggling to me that this person would give her up at this late stage. Perhaps they too in turn will be left to their fate... :-/

  4. this is just sad; on all sides. This girl, for sure, I think the catfather sent her. he knows that regardless of how many months Minuet has remaining, she will be looked after with the love, dignity and respect she deserves. Welcome Minuet, God's blessings to you John~~~ ♥♥♥♥♥

  5. Good heavens, the woman has had for 16 years and is giving her up now? How sad. I'm glad Minuet is finding her way to your Cosy Apartment, because whatever happens, she'll have the best care possible. I will keep her (and you!) in my thoughts and prayers. ♥

  6. What a lovely old girl Minuet is. You are wonderful to rescue her from
what could be the early end of her feline years. It certainly won't be
a fun job cleaning up after her, but a cats deserve the best in life.
I am always saddened at the orphanage to find many very old cats that
have been discarded for one reason or another.

  7. Welcome Minuet! And God bless you John for taking in a cat with so many issues! She is indeed lucky to have you caring for her. She looks so sweet, but I'm sure she is quite confused finding herself in a new home after 16 years. But with your love and patience I know she will live out her golden years receiving the best care possible.

  10. That poor little old lady. She must be so confused that her owner no longer wants her. Having a pet is like a marriage, it is for better and for worse. I wish people would realise that. Having said that, Minuet couldn't wish for a better home to see out her twilight years. You are an Angel on Earth who can be relied on to give the very best care and attention to those who come into your care.

  12. MY heart aches that she lost her home but thank goodness she was rescued from a terrible terrible fate; thanks to you. Maybe she won't be too confused. Maybe she will feel the goodness in the home. I pray so.

  14. Awww, she sure is a pretty gal. That is so sad that suddenly she finds herself cast away as it were and then in totally strange surroundings.
I hope she thrives a bit and learns the love you have to offer her and the care, too, is unconditional.
Bless you for finding her and helping out!

Years ago before we were married, Hubby had a kitty named Minuet!

Its a sweet name, and its the name of a dance. I hope your Minuet gets to have some nice dancing time in the cozy apartment.

  17. You have a heart of gold, John! Thank you bringing this lovely girl into your home. Like the others said, how could someone part with this girl? When we adopt, it's for the whole life of our cats/dogs. They are family! At least Minuet is now in good hands.

  18. It's a difficult decision no doubt, as her previous owner must have loved her greatly. John you kind to take her in and see if you can help her out. Welcome dear Minuet.
